I was woken up by 119’s train pulling behind the house to meet 112 in the middle of the night before going back to sleep.

With just a handful of spots between Hemlo and White River I decided it is best to head straight into White River. Trains 421 and 101 would be closing in and nobody including the RTC knew where the meet would take place! Finally the RTC/Director made the “executive decision” to… Train 421 came into the passing track to crew change. The outbound was to call the RTC who finally said nope you will see 118 there. Just as 118 was approaching (who fits everywhere) they are instructed to pull down the main and then reverse out the West end behind 421’s train to meet 101’s train.

These are free to attendees but donations are always welcome. The webinar will happen from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Thursday, October 1^st, 2020. Each of the first 6 online webinars was enjoyed by several hundred attendees.

After almost 25 years of planning and construction, Toronto’s fourth Union Station opened to great fanfare in August 1927 with a visit by the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII. Over the following decades, the station would witness the Depression, World War II, the railway’s transition from steam to diesel motive power, the decline of intercity and long-distance passenger trains, the near demolition of the building in the 1960s, and the repurposing of the station as commuter hub. After Union Station was acquired by the City of Toronto in the 21st century, a renovation and restoration process began that would take almost as long as its initial construction a century earlier.

Our presentation will include an extensive array of photographs, maps, diagrams and animations that will illustrate the history of this National Historic Site.

The cards would once again line up for a banner day along the North Shore of Lake Superior. I ended up taking today off to get some stuff done around the house and relax. I woke up quite early with Hannah as she got ready to head into the mine site for work. As I was making some coffee a late 119 called the home signal at Marathon, pefect! After 119 passed there would be a bit of a lull before the action picked up for mid morning. Train 113 would roll through and head over to Steel to meet 118 who overtook 420 at Jackfish. Train 420 would finally pass and head over to Heron Bay to see the TEC train.

On the morning of the 15^th a float truck struck the crossing at 62.8 in Marathon causing extensive damage. Luckily a maintainer was able to call an emergency and stop all trains (one was close and it would have been ugly) so the TEC car ended up being cancelled and returned to White River.

?

I would enjoy the day from here on plugging away watching 101 pass through in the afternoon behind the house. Hannah would get home from work and we would relax and have supper before the “chase train” shows up!

I Give Hannah a kiss, and we are off for a chase and catch a bit of action along the way to Armstrong, 520km away! It has been awhile since I have had a good run shooting trains on the way as I normally just beeline it for work!

With 421 going to be ducking into Terrace Bay to set off and lift I decide to head to Schreiber to nab 100’s train. The light at Terrace Bay was not good with the pulp mill fallout going straight down the tracks! I knew 100 would be coming into crew change so figured I’d shoot that along with an SD40-2 waiting its next assignment!

With 421 going to be set to go after 100’s arrival I make the executive decision to press on. The light would fade fast by the time he would have arrived into Schreiber and most places were shadow city by now anyways! A good decision as I got through two small construction zones and then heard 9112’s train leaving Dublin. Into Cavers I go for a nice sunset shot. No rear DP on this one but I didn’t have much time to set up or climb high enough!

I would then make it to the Armstrong turnoff when 420’s train was leaving Thunder Bay. A quick OS and then its off slamming the breaks a few times for those damn moose! I arrive to find 314 just getting ready to pull and then Q112 doubling into the yard. I would quickly double into my suite and hit the sheets! ?
