Thank you Fred Hilgenberg for the info on detector locations.
Can you give an explanation of the following terms associated
with detectors: HBD, DED,HWD and ABD.
HBD would be Hot Box Detector but the other 3 escape me.
Thanks

Re: New Detector

I'm unfamiliar with the area, but you might be able to find the detector (and others) in the Defect Detector Database website:
?If it's not there, you can add the information.

The detector is at mileage 46 on the Halton Sub. It's just north of Mainway level crossing.
Seemed to have been installed during the summer and finally got operational just before
Christmas.
Great if you are watching trains on the Oakville Sub. at Burlington West. Halton Sub. Mlge 49.3
and Oakville Sub. Mileage 32.3
You get 5-10 minute heads up a train is westbound on the Halton Sub.

Re: This Weekend in CNR History

We are talking about two different wars. In WWII there was no attempt to re-form something like the USRA that had run the railroads during WWI, but there was a strong feeling that transportation needed to be coordinated on a national basis. That task was given to the War Department. It's a bit of a coincidence that the railroad takeovers for two wars 25 years apart happened on nearly the same date.

I included this US information on the CNR list because the order applied to CN properties in the U.S.
