Re: This Weekend in CNR History


 

We are talking about two different wars. In WWII there was no attempt to re-form something like the USRA that had run the railroads during WWI, but there was a strong feeling that transportation needed to be coordinated on a national basis. That task was given to the War Department. It's a bit of a coincidence that the railroad takeovers for two wars 25 years apart happened on nearly the same date.

I included this US information on the CNR list because the order applied to CN properties in the U.S.

I think that you meant December 27, 1917, not 1943 ?. It was actually ordered by President Wilson on December 26th, effective December 28th.
