Starting with the cutler hammer controls on the EzTraks, the power goes through a piggy back board with circuit breakers. This protects the BMDC.
To get people running, I used to take 5vdc from the logic power supply, fuse it, and connect it to the tantalum capacitor + lead in the corner of the AXSBOB board. That back feeds the encoders and related circuits. You are running again.

If I had a part number I'd be good.? This is apparently a well known issue that happens when the 5V shorts.? Seems that this is a sacrificial component.? Although I've seen this referenced a number of times on the forums, I've never seen a replacement value. If I can't find any other info, I'll just order a 100uH with about 1 amp capacity.? Probably it doesn't matter that much.? Probably the most important feature is that it burns before other components are damaged, so less is probably better.
