sBitx CW keyer problems and idea for solution

For the CW operators here ... have you had any problems with the sBitx CW keyer? The timing seems off for me when keying at higher speeds, and the TX isn't quite right even using an external keyer. I took a couple of videos showing what I mean: Using an external keyer at 25 wpm, the dits are much more staccato than they should be and sometimes entirely cut off. The TX is bad enough that the RBN will not pick up my call when using the external keyer: https://youtu.be/GHbw9GroKAU Using the sBitx internal keyer at 25 wpm, there are many keying mistakes introduced by the software, for example when keying the word "POTA", which is a word many of us will be keying of course: https://youtu.be/dtnPlcLXmdQ Keying using a small keyboard or a save message seems to work fine, so that's good :) I noticed the code polls the GPIO associated with the key only about 10-20 times per second, which I think is much too slow for faster keying, so I was thinking about rewriting it to use GPIO interrupts to change the CW flags instead of repeatedly polling the GPIO. Does anyone have thoughts on this as a possible approach? Thanks, Steve W4SGN

zBITX: Is there a built-in charging circuit for the 18650 batteries?

Is there a built-in charging circuit for the 18650 batteries in zBITX? This question was asked by one of my ham friends. I told him that I will post on this group and get back to him if I get a response. 73 Jon, VU2JO

uBitxV6 -by transmitting resets-
30
Hello everyone here, I have been using my uBitx V6 exclusively in CW mode for quite some time now. Recently, a what seems to be "auto reset" occurs during transmission the set then goes down completely and then starts up again happily. I have been searching like crazy for the past few months but I cannot find the cause.I In the meantime, I have disabled the auto reset of the raduino, but that does not help either. In the meantime, I do not know anymore, perhaps someone here has an idea? I would be very grateful best 73es pieter (oe6paf)

SBITX V3 for sale
5
I have a lightly used SBITX V3 for sale. I had replaced the original board with a new one, due to the low output on 20 meters. the new board resolved the issue. I was able to fix the old board and built a new SBITX. Hence no need for 2. It has been updated with JJs latest 64k version and tested. It also has been updated with a 4GB Raspberry Pi 4. I'm asking $325.00 with free shipping in the ConUS Tom Crowley KT4XN crowleytj at hotmail dot com 404.375.5578

Selling my sBitx V2 serial no. 0251. I assembled it, made a few ft8 and cw contacts, updated to 64-bit, #D printed a cover that allows for connection of mini HDMI cable to PI for extended display. Works great plugged into a 48" 1080P display (see pics on QRZ swapmeet). Was fun to play with, but now just sits. Still has protective film on the screen and I installed Anderson power poles on the power cable. Includes everything that came in the box. Fully assembled and tested sBitx-v2 with the Raspberry 4 updated to 64-bit sBitx image. 7 inch capactive display 32 GB SD card installed with software XT60 power cable with power poles. v3 PA specs
9
Does anyone know of a singular source that documents the specs, performance, etc. of the sbitx v3 PA stage? It appears to be a fairly flexible design and I was considering it as a potential candidate to put in front of a Lime sdr mini v2. There doesn't appear to be a significant support community for that particular sdr, but I certainly would like to get the most out of it that I can. As always, any input or suggestions are welcome! -- Mike - K8MCB

zBitx at 13,8v
6
Hello, we haven't received any zBitx yet and I'm already thinking about modifying something. I don't really like the fact that it goes to a maximum of 9v, and I would like to know how to modify the device to make it work at 13,8vdc like the rest of the radio devices that most of us have. I've looked at some components in the sBitx schematic and I think they are basically the same. So, what changes? I don't want to get more power (it wouldn't be bad to get 20w ;-) ) but I want to be able to have access to all the power sources I have. thanks... I'm anxiously awaiting my shipment from India... Zbitx :: manual Tuner procedure
Hello! while waiting for my zbitx to arrive, and after reading the sbitx manual, I can’t find a reference on how to use a manual tuner in order to keep the finals safe. I have a Chinese zmatch qrp tuner, but the tune function is way off, so I use the “work” function for better results. what would be the best practice? thabk you in advance!

#sBitx
Hello. I created a pre-compiled version of sBitx on 64 Bit for the Raspberry Pi4 for those who are interested. https://github.com/drexjj/sbitx/releases/tag/sBitx-v3.02-64-Bit Please go ahead and test it, sharing your thoughts afterward. Consider this a beta version, pending improvements based on the feedback I receive.. I've included sBITX Toolbox as well as other ham radio apps. It has been tested on both a 2GB Pi and 4GB Pi without issues. The download is designed to fit a 32GB SD Card or USB storage device. -JJ

Sbitx v3 file requirement
6
Hello. Wondering how important the original sbitx.db and the hwini files are from the original disk I got when I purchased my unit a few years ago? Before you ask, I DID back up those two files to a safe disk, I thought. That backed up disk was used by the xyl by mistake and overwritten. It was stashed away separate from my other SD disks but in the same drawer that the others were. Thanks in advance, James W8ISS

How to ruggedize the sBitx V3
9
Hi there, I've been seeing posts about burnt finals, melted transformers, etc. Is there a way to "invest" into parts for the sBitx V3 to make it more resilient. I would not mind to buy beefier elements for the radio and swapping them out to make the radio more resistant to failure, especially a cascading failure. What steps would you recommend to take such action? Thanks.

Anyone got a ZBitX or SBitX connected to the Internet?
19
Howdy, Long shot, probably, but wondering if anyone has a Z- or SBitX that is either online or can be put online at some prearranged time? Essentially, I’d really like to see how usable the web interface is with either a Mac or Windows screen reader, for use until we can somehow get a talking local interface. Likely as not I’ll get one or the other of ‘em to play with sometime this year. Give me a good excuse to try and learn something useful and maybe scratch that building itch. ... -- Buddy Brannan, KB5ELV, WRVB670 - Erie, PA Email: buddy@... Mobile: (814) 431-0962

Error starting sBitx v4.3 64 bits
9
Good afternoon, I had a Raspberry TFT screen saved and today I put it on a sBitx computer version DE. But now a problem has appeared, the sBitx does not start and gives the error "snd_mixer_selem_has_capture_switch: Assertion `elem' failed". pi@sbitx:~ $ cd sbitx pi@sbitx:~/sbitx $ ./sbitx sbitx v4.301 Unable to load ~/sbitx/data/hw_settings.ini Loading default_hw_settings.ini instead i2cbb.c:writing address failed at 8 sbitx: simple.c:652: snd_mixer_selem_has_capture_switch: La declaración `elem' no se cumple. Abortado pi@sbitx:~/sbitx $ If I disconnect the power supply from the TFT screen and restart the computer everything works correctly. The Raspberry is a v4, the OS is 64 bits and the sBitt version is 4.3. Any ideas? Thanks, Ramón EA4GZI

sBitx orders
With all the fanfare around the zBitx, I've heard nothing about sBitx. When will we be able to order the current, or next(v4) iteration of SBitx? 73 -- Mike - K8MCB

sBitx v3 stopped producing RF output after long FT8 operation
36
#power
#rf
#sBITX_v3
After a month of perfect operation in FT8 mode, my sBitx v3 has stopped producing the output RF signal. I hoped it might be a software issue, like described here: https://github.com/drexjj/sbitx/wiki/No-Power-Output . Unfortunately, no correction in the software configuration restores the correct operation. The status of my radio is as follows: Reception works perfectly. The malfunction didn’t affect the receiver. When I start transmitting in CW mode, the current consumption increases from 0.35A to 1.05A at DRIVE=100 or 0.84A at DRIVE=50. The peak-to-peak voltage at 14.068 MHz is ca. 11V for DRIVE=100 and 272 mV for DRIVE=50 (measured with 50 Ohm 40dB attenuator as a dummy load, and multiplied by 100) The sBitx meter displays 0W and SWR=1.0 When working, the radio was used with the antenna matched via ATU-10-0A tuner with SWR up to 2. The symptoms suggest that I have fried the transistors in the final stage due to too intensive usage in an FT8 mode. Am I right? Should I pair the replacement IRF510N transistors according to their threshold voltage when replacing them? Is it possible to use IRF520 (with higher maximum ID) instead of IRF510? Thank you, Wojtek - SP5DAA

SMS noise on sBitx V4
This needs to be implemented in sBitx V4, Getting back to the SMS 5V regulator noise, I just finished building a QRPlabs QMX+ and while it uses 3 different SMS regs it does not exhibit any noise from them because of this, direct quote from QMX+ info: " The rather unique aspect is that the microcontroller knows the radio's operating frequency; it also knows the switching frequency. Both are known relative to the high precision 25MHz TCXO reference which is the master clock for the entire design. The CPU can calculate where the harmonics of the switching frequency occur and slightly alter the buck converter PWM frequency to move the interference far away from the operating frequency." We need this in the sBitx V4. Joel N6ALT
