V6 & 3D printer
#ubitxv6
Simple but nice Lee. ?Having several 3D printers and become semi-proficient with Fusion 360, I considered doing a folding stand myself, but now, there's no need for me to do that - Thanks for the .stl files. ?If you have them, I'd consider putting some of those stick-on rubber feet (or designing some 3mm holes into the bottom of the handle to add sticky rubber feet which will keep the handle from sliding as it's used for the stand (shorten the handle up by about 10 millimeters too so the uBITX's back foot sits more firmly on the surface. ?That will help keep it from sliding around. ?Just a thought or two. Nice job, no matter what though. Jim - W0EB

Hi Lee, ??????????? The case looks very nice,i've been thinking of rehousing my Ubitx Version 3 with 2 line lcd display into a black excellway case i have but Its creeping up to 28c here in the garden which is south facing and the shacks an 8x6 i built 20 years ago once its cooled down ill dig out my dremel and get oblong hole cutting.,I don't own a 3d printer once again congratulations on the case.Dave On Sun, 12 Jul 2020 at 16:34, Jim Sheldon <w0eb@...> wrote:

Since my radio always sits in the same spot I made a hold-down and because the stand makes the speaker angle away I also made an ugly sound deflector.

Nice idea about the handle. I'd also add feet at the rear of the radio so if I set the radio down, the feet would keep the BNC RF output connector from feeling the weight of the radio. Something empty spools for thread would work but they'd be too cheap and dirty for professional feet unless modified and painted. Bob ¡ª KK5R

On second thought, I'd also use thumbscrews or something similar to attach the handle to the case to avoid having the handle allow the radio moving forward or backward. Also, rubber washers about 1/16th inch between the handle and the radio case would further keep the handle from shifting after tightening the thumbscrews. Just a thought. Bob ¡ª KK5r

Looking better and better Lee. Much better on the case than forming a bail and using a couple of U-clips on the bottom of the radio cabinet. Or robbing one from a parts radio. The handle mounting you used is the least damaging I can think of. Only thing I might consider is threaded Pop-rivets on the case for attaching the handle. If it's to be permanent, though, a screw mounted from the inside could be used since the handle is flexible enough to bend each leg out to slip over the screw sticking out of the radio. More ideas. For those of you with the Version 6 uBITX and own or have access to a 3D printer that just want a tilt stand and do not really want to drill holes in your case to mount it like Lee has done for that nice carrying handle, I got to work with the Fusion 360 CAD program today and came up with the following alternative. It's a tilt stand that lifts the case up at an angle about the same as Lee's handle, but mounts using a 3D printed mounting adapter that screws to the bottom using the two front corner mounting screws already with the case. ?That way no further mechanical mods need be made to the case to use it once you have printed it. ?3D .stl files included for both the mount and the stand itself. ?Either way you chose to do it you win - LOL. Enjoy, Jim, W0EB
