Want to upgrade my uBitx v5 to v6 but to no luck , bought a 2.8¡± ILI9341 from eBay, load an extra nano with v6 firmware, ?follow the instruction from post here in to connect 6 data cables & jumper power/ground , nothing on display, but can hear morse code on audio, need a help here , thank you.?

Hi, just got a touch version of the ili9341, connected the six data cables & 5v & ground as well , swapped touch_CS with TFT_CS but still nothing, the display will light up only if I connect 5v to led port (pin8) ?of ili9341, ?I will attach pictures, I did not see this post early , I smoked the non-touch version trying different setup..

uBitxv5 to V6

Some ili9341 displays are not 5 Volt compatible.
You need a level shifter for data line.
Simple a 1k Ohm resistor in serial works fine.

Hi, still no luck after placing 1K Ohm resistor on 6 data lines, btw, same ubitx still works with stock software & arduino & kd8cec 1.2 FW , but it¡¯s off by 2-2.5MHz ....

Darwin does your display just show a blank white screen?

Yes it stays white if there¡¯s a 5v power to led port on ili9341 otherwise it¡¯s blank , I tried both 1K & 10K resistors as well , thank you?

Darwin. On the back of the display board there are very tiny jumper pads, J1.? They are close to the smd chip. If your old like me you will need a magnifying glass to see it. Make sure the pads are jumpered. If not the display will not work at 5 volts. I had the same problem.

White screen can also be a power sequencing issue, I think. I added code specifically to take the screen out of standby in my build, which fixed the problem for my radio.

hi, jumper placed on J1 , still with white screen, thank you.

Darwin, the picture shows the pads but no jumper. Is this is a 'before' you did the jumper picture?

Barry , this is before , I did use a magnifier, thank you for your reply.?

Darwin, you did jumper across the two pads...yes?

Barry , I did but only with white screen, I wonder if I still need to place the resistors , which I did not after the jumper , or maybe the ili9341 needs its own driver like the nextion display , thank you for your reply?

What firmware are you using in the nano?

Good morning, version 6.3.1

Jumper?

Darwin, sorry that my ideas did not help you. I had the exact same issue with white screen. the display only worked properly when 3.3 volts was applied. 5 volts, white screen. I then found the jumper needed to be put in to operate from 5 volt.
There is much knowledge in this group and hopefully someone has the answer. Good luck.

Hi Darwin,
Have a look at this wiki for a starting place of documentation.

Level shifters are recommended

See ¡°How to use on Arduino¡± (almost to the bottom of the page)

Just personal view / comments below:
I don't want to start a debate, just another viewpoint..?
A series resistor is not a level shifter per se.? It is a current limiter.
This would not be a recommended way to 'level shift'? (still turning on the ESD clamps)
MISO (Master In Slave Out) would not use a resistive level shifter.? (you said you put resistors on n data lines)

My concern is that since you have already ran a 5V signal on the bus to the board, you have subjected components to electrical over stress.
If you have induced damage, further attempts to configure this board are a fruitless / frustrating effort.

Gary

Hi, luckily the ili9341 is still alive , I used the guide from educ8s.tv ?and the arduino graphics test sketch. Thank you .?
