Noob Mic question #ubitx-help

I'm going to use this old light stand to make a desktop mic.? Should I attach the ground side to the flexible conduit portion?? I'm worried about hand capacitance issues.

Thanks!

Grounding can't hurt.?? Please post a picture of it when finished.

I don't think it is strictly necessary

I have several mics with goosenecks. On all of them the shield is connected to the mic base body. Since the gooseneck is metal like the base, it's connected to the shield as well.

That said, on at least one of my mics (perhaps more) the shield for the mic is not connected to the shield coming into the base from the radio. In fact my Kenwood TS-430 will produce a hum on my audio if the mic ground is connected to the radio ground. You don't have to worry about that on a Bitx series radio tho.

Vince.

Thanks guys.?? Guess I'll ground it and see what happens.? I'll put a pic up when done.

Here's that pic I promised.? Made from an old desk lamp from a resell it shop.? Not much to look at,...but it serves my purpose.? Used some vacuum tubing to attach the mic element and hot glued a handfull of nuts into the base to give it some weight.

Looks nice.? Great idea of re-purposing an old lamp.

How do you like the giant fan?? If I turn it on I half expect the radio to go sliding across my desk.? It's gotta go. Lol.

Old Computer motherboards :-) - and other defunct gear. Scratch, scrabble, scrounge, scrooge! The Ham mantra - and eco-friendly: recycle! continuing the mic philosophy.

I'm admittedly a noob,? but I've learned to be a good scrounge over the years so I'm getting that part of Ham down quickly.? I found a much smaller fan that I don't even remember scrounging for a replacement.? With some filtering it might just work.

I've got to use this stuff before I get buried in it!
