Baofeng Microphones

When using a Baofeng mike, can you just slice off the small plug for the speaker mike and just go on your merry way?

That’s what I did and it works fine for me.?

Now a days it is difficult to gety a 2.5 and 3.5 combined plug.
As such? i humbly feelt hat instead of chopping off,? better we have a jack and plug (extension card assembly) and adopt it to original baofeng type (ebay) mic)

They sell them on Alibaba and price isn’t even that bad. Only problem is that it is a pcb mount jack so that might cause some difficulties to mount it in a case.

If you already HAVE the Baofeng mic, AND you are still in construction phase for your enclosure, why not set up the two jacks (Mic/PTT and headphones) at the correct spacing to just plug in the Baofeng as it is??

I like your idea of an adaptor board instead of cutting off the connector. Has anyone made a small board with the double jacks on one end and a single plug on the other?

Another note: ?my Baofeng speaker mike was of such poor quality that I bought an almost identical from Btech, QHM22, a much better product for $23.00 USD. ?The speaker is top notch and reports of my voice quality are very good now. ?So the Btech mike might be a better choice for the Bitx rigs too.

My solution for Baofeng Mic.

Panel mount mono jacks, one 3.5 and one 2.5, from Radio Shack in store stock (could probably order online), if you turn these back to back, and butt them against each other, with the ears turned out, it is a perfect fit for spacing. ?I had posted a picture before, I will look to see if I can find it again. ?

I then use only the PTT, and the Mic element in the enclosure, enlarge the hole in front of the element, remove the speaker, and make sure the only two circuits are PTT and MIC, I removed SMD components and unnecessary trace runs by exacto knife cuts.

Works fine for me.

I fitted a standard 3.5 and 2.5mm jacks at the rear of my uBITX build.? NOTE the 3.5mm jack needs to be insulated from the chassis to work as the PTT is connected to what is normally 'ground' on a stereo socket.
I used some plastic washers to insulate it.

Perhaps we can mount a rectangular? insulating piece over which we can mount these jacks. For example Pratap (vu2pop) from Bangalore, India, made a small biscuit pcb mouting it on bottom of the enclosre. the jacks are soldered (pcb type) on to it. and the front panel has silghtly larger drills that insulate the mic and speaker jacks.

He has ready enclosures for ubitx, i suppose.

Glen,?

See how the two boxes are not square?

If you put the tabs 180 degrees facing away from each other the two boxes will square up tight to each other, and the plugs will line up perfectly.

That’s if those are similar to mine, and they do look like it.?

I have thought about a thin acrylic of some sort with just enough thickness and cut a small oval or rectangle in the metal case to accommodate the insulated jacks. ?

Right now mine are just taped together, and I have strain relief on the radio side. ?

Hi Craig,
i just measured the spacing up and drilled the holes to suit. I have a drill though with a digital readout so its relatively easy to do. Thanks for the idea though.

I built and audio cable that swaps the tip and ring so I can keep the original uBiTX mic wiring when plugging in a Baofeng mic.
