Audio questions on V4 board
How do the new V4 users like the audio? Is it clear, quiet? Is there enough audio if running a small speaker? I know what Farhan said in his audio description, but I'm looking for some real world results from new users of the V 4 board. I already have a version 3 board, and until yesterday when trying to get the click/pop fix board installed it worked great except for the lack of AGC and the pop TX/RX problem. Well, somehow some of the magic smoke escaped when testing it, now I have no TX or RX but the Raduino is still working as are other parts of the main board, (like the audio circuit and the relays). Rather than spending a lot of time trouble shooting the V3 board right now, I'm thinking of just dropping a new V4 board in the same case and plug all my stuff into it. Will the V4 board use my old Raduino?

I know Farhan said it had enough audio to drive a small speaker, but I have not found this to be the case. ?Mine will drive the pants off of a pair of 32 ohm headphones (only set I have with a 1/8" stereo plug on them). ?I cannot get it to drive even a 2" MFJ communications speaker that all the other versions drive loud enough to blast you out of the room. ?The versio 4 board's audio even at MAX volume is audible only in an extremely quiet room on any speaker I have been able to find so far. I have even tried adding a 1 watt LM386 amplifier kit to it with not much better results. I strongly suggest using an external amplified speaker with the Version 4 boards or just use headphones. My next attempt will be one of the 5-7 watt audio amp chips built up on a piece of perf board and see if I can't get better results with that. Jim, W0EB

I didn't address anything but the audio as I don't use the original Raduinos on any of my uBITX builds but I believe Farhan said it would work. ?The V4 board has the Raduino built with the NANO on the back side to keep it out of the way of the display for easier mounting. W0EB

Thanks for the reply's guys. That is what I was afraid of. Personally, I had no problems with the FCI TDA2282M chip that was on my board, it worked flawlessly and didn't heat up excessively even at 13.8 volts. If Farhan hadn't got some bad chips the TDA2282M would have been a fine choice for the audio amp. Now I'm not sure what to do, I would like one of the new boards with the pop fix already incorporated, however I'm not a fan of the new audio amp. Oh well, I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too:-( BTW, I found a vaporized trace on the bottom of my V3 board and replaced it with a small piece of wire, but that didn't fix anything so I guess I will order another board. How does the V4 board work otherwise? No other problems.
