W8TEE TFT and uBitx

Jack

Will your current TFT board work with uBitx? I presume some code will need adjustment to accommodate the new transceiver hardware.

Just thinking as I'm waiting.

Thanks

I started modifying the code for I2C 4 x 20 LCD.

The LCD is big, hope I can figure out how to fit everything?

I am going to mount the speaker slightly off center to clear things.

I used a 4" on BitX (16 OHM), and really liked the sound.

I don't know who wrote the code for uBit? Ash?

One thing, it is broken up in separate files. They all are *.ino. Somehow they all get linked up?

I don't see any way they know where the functions are? I bet one of you programmers could explain it.

I like it, wondering if this is special in Arduino?

I am having email problems, I try to send photos to myself first, because it reduces their file size.
I don't seem to be able to do that in Windows. I don't want to edit them, just reduce file size.
It is too much trouble to do it in the camera.

But they end up to the group. I just got notice of 2 emails not going thru?

I am working on it, sorry for cryptic posts.

Thanks. I recall that discussion about the coming upgrade.?

I was considering pulling mine off the Bitx and repurposing it while I wait for Jacks next iteration of brilliance.?

It would give me an excuse to try out Allards Raduino v2 on the Bitx?

For some reason I had decided to do no mods until after a successful QSO.

That might be wise just to get on the air instead of stuck in always getting better.

That's actually a very wise decision!
Always make sure you got everything working as it should before proceding
to the next improvement.

I'm not sure yet. I have my ?BITX, but I'm going to keep it stock. I need a stock one for testing purposes and to test out software/hardware mods that come down the pike. I've ordered two more so I can experiment with those. I think the new display addon will keep the ?BITX's Si5351 because of the hassle costs of getting the AD9850 II module, but probably jump up to a minimum of a 3.5" display. We will likely use a Teensy 3.5 on the board instead of an Arduino family. Their clock speeds just aren't up to what we need for what we have in mind. The display will be touch screen and menu, so the display costs will rise (from around $7 to $15 for a 3.5"). Work will start as soon as the rigs get here, but it's going to take time to get things working. It will be Open Source and we will maintain our high-quality PCB.

Stay tuned...

My uBITX too is stock only until after a few QSOs.? Then the mods will begin!
  • It seems easier to wire up the front and rear panel components before
installing them into the chassis, especially if space is tight.?
    ?Measure
distance and leave a few extra mm of wire length.?

  • Small shaft on the volume control was shimmed out using a 1/4 inch OD
plastic tube found in the junk box.? If you have access to a metal turning
lathe it should be easy to make a shaft adapter from 1/4 inch OD metal
    rod.?

  • ?My particular uBITX has no mechanical detents on the rotary encoder.?
I like the smooth tuning adjustment.? Using a fairly large knob on the
encoder adds to smooth feel when changing frequency.?

I have one of these and have used it with the BITX40 VFO/TFT PCB. I need to finish up an article I'm working on before I hook it up to the Teensy. It does work with the Mega 2560 Pro Mini.

Hi Jack,

Yes teensy's are more powerfull in their processing and could potentially even do some audio processing as well which opens up a whole new alley ;-) Let me know what teensy you plan on using Jack, my uBitx is in the mail btw so should be here shortly.

greetings?
Leo PA1LDB

teenys and the audio shield can seriously supercharge this rig in huge number of ways. here is what is needed to be done :

1. push the bfo down by 15 KHz, so the output is not 0-3 khz but between 13 KHz and 17 KHz (appox)
2. run weaver ssb on teensy.?
3. turn on the agc, write bandpass, band reject FIR filters.?

here is something to hack with (no, it doesnt work out of the box). it is from another project on the bench, but i could hear the funcube with it.

We've narrowed it down to the Teensy 3.5 or the ESP32. I think library depth will be decisive as well as which displays can use the libraries. We need at least a 3.5" display and 5" would be better. Al and I are both pretty busy with the Holidays, but hope to get back to it after the 5th. (Al and I are riding to a hamfest together, so we should be able to hash some stuff out while we drive.)

teenys and the audio shield can seriously supercharge this rig in huge number of ways. here is what is needed to be done :

1. push the bfo down by 15 KHz, so the output is not 0-3 khz but between 13 KHz and 17 KHz (appox)
2. run weaver ssb on teensy.?
3. turn on the agc, write bandpass, band reject FIR filters.?

here is something to hack with (no, it doesnt work out of the box). it is from another project on the bench, but i could hear the funcube with it.

Hi Jack,

Yes teensy's are more powerfull in their processing and could potentially even do some audio processing as well which opens up a whole new alley ;-) Let me know what teensy you plan on using Jack, my uBitx is in the mail btw so should be here shortly.

greetings?

Hi Jack,?

Thank you for tonight¡¯s presentation on the Arduino. ?I have had an Ubitx on order since the end of February, if I wanted to get a head start of the the board your working on, what would you recomend I source to prep?

Get y our chassie ready. I planned for plastic kit boxes. Bought 2 different sizes. My kit arrived and once i printed the 12 pages i found out it is reccomended to use metal. I went with an RCI-2950 Case. Plenty of room for radio and air flow.
Best of luck, KM6BNY
