Hi all. Absolute noob at the ubitx here. More or less a first time radio builder also.
Got home Saturday afternoon to a package on the doorstep. Checked in to my favorite net on 80m with it this morning!
My first case option isn't working out so that's already on the list to be redone.
My speaker options aren't working so I'm using an audio jumper to my computer and basically making the computer think it's a mic.
"listen to this device" and I hear it on my computer!
I assume I need a TRS plug for the speaker? All I have is a mono.
Does the V6 have frequency memories?
Is there one website where I can find a complete list of the controls?
Now that it's working what do I need to do next?

Congratulations on the successful build!? Now the fun continues with upgrades and modifications to make it just the way you want it.
Since you are talking about case options, I will assume that you did not buy the full kit.? If this is incorrect, let us know.
What is it you do not like with the speaker options?? There are mods to the audio section to either reduce hiss, gain, or other changes.? I would suggest searching this message board for the symptom that you want to correct.
Yes, you do need a TRS plug to connect to the headphone jack.? The tip and ring are connected together to the output of the LM386.? Using a mono plug will short out the output of the audio amp.? NOTE: there is a speaker jack on the mainboard per the schematic.? I attached a picture of the mainboard with labels of the connections. The speaker connection is the P4 two-pin connector next to the volume control.? ?I must apologize to the contributor, as I do not have the contributor that provided the picture and labels.
I do not have a v6, so I cannot be sure if there is a memory function.? When I checked the HFSignals.com page, I did find under the circuit description an explanation of the controls.? A memory function was not listed there.? The controls description is far down the page under "Operating the Radio."
As to what to do next, the short answer would be to operate!? Get on the air and make contact.? The longer answer is to search the web for upgrades or mods that you would like.? A good source other than this board is ubitx.net.? There a lot of modifications listed there.?

there is vfo a and vfo b. if you switch to vfo a and tune around, then switch the vfo, the previous frequency is saved on vfo a. works the same way with vfo b too. with the two you can also work split. i usually set the vfo a to my fav 7020 and the vfob to 14.200 mhz. - f

Thanks Evan! I missed the on board speaker connection. That just solved that.
I also seem to be missing the cw menu, or I just haven¡¯t figured out how the get to it yet.
I did manage to find the set-up menu ... and I think I managed to get the frequency off a bit. But all I saw there was the wwv and bfo stuff.

What are you looking to change in the CW settings?? Words per minute and tone are on the main menu.? The other settings would be in the setup menu that I have read is a long push on the encoder.? You will need help from an owner of a v6 much beyond what I have already given, as I do not own one.

Hi,
My beef with the uBitX keyer adjustments - CW Speed - is all the steps and hoops we must go through to change speeds. If you don't care about CW hit delete and move on now. It is hard for me to imagine there are hams who are actually slower than me but there are. The Q signal is QRS - slow down. I don't want the other ham to wander off for a cup of coffee while I change speeds and forget all about the QSO - maybe watch an episode of Happy Days on TV. <evil grin> I have another QRP transceiver with a microcontroller and I can change the 'words per minute' about as fast as with the speed control pot on legacy keyers. Maybe *one* second. My solution for that with uBitX is to use a legacy, external keyer with the uBitX in straight key mode. The only thing faster at speed changes is an actual straight key:) With a straight key we can change speeds right in the middle of a single character (except e or t). I have actually done that with said 'legacy' keyer. Usually not, just as a practical matter. But no layers of menu to go through just get there.
Maybe the bright-eyed programmers can do something about that :) If not, the legacy keyer gets it done. Maybe this will help others with uBitX and similar radios with comfortable CW operation. The other helper is a good audio CW filter. For casual use the existing SSB filter is good enough.

Matt: I added a 4 channel favorites menu to my software version. I haven't done any explicit documentation - only explanations of stuff to people in threads on this forum - but I hope that operation should be pretty straight forward.
Bill: Isn't there a dedicated WPM button for that on the stock v6 software? If your using a different software, it would be pretty easy to add or replace a button to get that functionality.

Hi Reed,
I worked on another ham's V6. It is no longer here. I have only a V3 with CEC software. The V6 had the original software when it arrived here. That was useless on CW due to *extreme* latency. At the owner's request I installed your software:) It immediately cured the latency problem and also the 17 meter problem. I did not see a way to conveniently change the CW speed although I did find and use it. My understanding is your improvements have been rolled into the "official" HF Signals software - a boon no doubt. My personal opinion of your software - it does what it is supposed to do and did a nice job. You done good. My comments about how many steps are required to change speeds are related to my own personal preferences and operating style. There are likely to be others who would like the same thing. The external keyer handles it nicely. I don't plan any changes to my V3 over that.

Bill: To my knowledge, none of my changes have made it back into the "official" code base. I created some pull requests early on, but they didn't go anywhere. Barry: Maybe, but as I mentioned in the other thread, not planning on doing more Nano dev. The reason I got rid of the CW button was so I could add the favorites and menu buttons. Could get rid of some band shortcuts, but which ones? Of course, anybody with a little initiative could decide that for themselves and make the change ;) Matt: Sorry for the accidentally hijacking! I do recommend giving my software version a try, since I did try and add a number of improvements, including the 4 favorites slots I mentioned earlier. And as Evan mentioned earlier, there's the speaker jumper on the main board, and you will need a TRS plug to make the jack behave, since a mono plug will short the ring and sleeve, thus killing the audio  Reed

There is a WPM button on the front touch panel.
I was looking for the iambic settings in the set up menu. I have yet to try the ubitx on cw. Still tinkering with the enclosure.
I have fab skills, just not equipment.
Im gonna play with it as is for a while before changing anything .... the favorites is an upgrade I will do when the time comes.
Does anyone know if the enclosure and stuff is for sale separately ?

I think the enclosure is a rip-off. I say this as someone with business interest in hf signals. We couldn't get a flat packing bix designed that would weigh less. As a result, about 20 dollars go off just to the dhl or india post guys.? It would be better if someone came up with a design that could be laser cut locally. - f
