Dial is locked
EA3IAV
since I installed a swr meter kit i get this message randomly when I ptt
the only thing the swr has to do with the pcb is a bypass with the antenna circuit. Swr kit has a switch and when it is turned on it is ok. It works normally although it takes a little bit of power down. But when turned off I get that "dial is locked" i have unplugged all cw wires but the ptt sensor just to check but same issue |
The message "dial is locked" is normally only displayed when you turn the

tuning pot while you are in TX. Apparently your Raduino occasionally "thinks" that the tuning pot changes position while you are in TX, whereas in reality you didn't turn the pot. This could be caused by some RF noise on the ANALOG_TUNING line (which connects to the tuning pot slider). It is important to have the supplied 0.01uF cap installed on the pot to reduce noise. RF noise can also increase when SWR is poor. Perhaps your SWR meter somehow affects your SWR when it's turned off? 73 Allard PE1NWL On Sun, June 25, 2017 20:15, EA3IAV wrote:

Allard, I've noticed that after I tune around a bit the frequency will occasionally change by 1 increment. I think there are stresses in the wiper mechanism of the potentiometer and that makes it move. Doesn't happen all the time. I've also noticed that if I move the front panel of my Lexan "enclosure", it can torque the VFO pot and cause it to move an increment up or down. Would that small change cause the dial to lock while transmitting? Could explain what EA3IAV is seeing...Perhaps having the lockout sensor trigger on something greater than "any change"?

I have changed the whole swr circuit. This timeusing shielded wires. I skso tryed a new swr led circuit "tayloe swr indicator"
I still have interference on the funcions of the raduino. This time even more severe, with all kind of functions being toggled while transmitting (rit, locked dial etc....) so i give up. I have uninstalled everything for the swr |

We could increase this value to make it less susceptical to noise, but in EA3IAV's specific case I doubt it will help. The problems as he describes them indicate that there's more going on than just a bit of noise on the potentiometer, perhaps grounding issues, poor or incorrect wiring, faulty components, etc? 73 Allard PE1NWL |

Ok. Here is how I solved this.Good! Yes, correct grounding from one central ground point is usually recommended especially in RF environments. Glad you were able to get it working! 73 Allard PE1NWL |
