Hello
looking for some help on how to wire up mic and earphone/speaker to Bitx40 using the 3.5 mm audio jacks it comes with. Do I use one for mic and the other earphone(headset)/speaker. I have a headset that has earphones and mic on one cable. Appreciate anyone response and help.

Art,
The individual mic and speaker connections are easy just follow this guide,?
However, if you're asking how to wire up your headset we would need more information regarding the plug on it and whether it has PTT capabilities or not. Joel? KB6QVI

Hi Art! What type of jack do you have on your headset? 3 contacts or 4 contacts?
Can you get a diagram of your headset connections to the jack? Once I know what you have I might be able to help -- Ion VA3NOI

No ptt. I installed a separate button for ptt. Connector on end of cable is a stereo 3.5 mm. Built-in mic is electret on a small boom extending from the headset. I have a second? Bitx that I modified the fist set for mic and ptt and that works great. Separate speaker though. Any help appreciated?

WHile we are on the subject, could someone please give me a pinout for the 3.5mm jacks that came with my kit? There are 5 pins, and none are numbered as to what they are...

I did a google and found a pin out that matched the pin lay out
Pin 1 - common
Pin 2 ?left audio to radio side
Pin 3 left audio to receiver?
Pin 4 right audio to receiver
Pin 5 audio to radio side
All that said - not sure if that maps to the jack in the kit
Best I could find so far

Rich,
What I have to do every time Is to take a stereo plug that has not been used yet and plug it into the jack, then check each pin for continuity between the two and which pin of the jack goes to the tip, sleeve, and ring of the plug. The leftover two pins are not used and are closed circuits pins, (like when you want the audio to come out a internal speaker until you plug in the plug). Joel? KB6QVI

Art,
Usually the tip of the plug is the headphones, the sleeve, (the middle ring), is the mic, and the ring or the body of the plug is ground that is common to both, but I don't know how yours is wired. ?If it doesn't work one way, switch the the tip and sleeve wires, the ground remains where it is. It's easy to do but hard to explain. Joel? KB6QVI

I found the drawing of the jacks we received. From the versions ours is the one with 5 contacts (XXXXX..4BH3) http://www.switchcraft.com/Drawings/35rapc__h3_cd.pdf -- Ion VA3NOI
