sBitX Intermittent display - damaged cable #sBitx

The display on my sBitX has been fluttering and disappearing occasionally when I move it. I suspected a loose connection. What I found was worse. As you see in the photo, the cable to the display is cut (outlined with the red rectangle) at the edges. I know the cause. I've been opening and closing the unit many times to install a new MicroSD card as I experiment with the many new releases. If the top tips too far on the opened unit, it seems to abrade or cut the cable.

I have to find a better way to install upgrades via the MicroSD card. Your solutions are welcome, especially if you have tested them.

The cable is part AWM 20706. I can buy 100 of them (and no fewer!) on Amazon but cannot get them before I take my sBitX on holiday. I hope the right wiggling will keep it working at the beach.

That can be frustrating.. Here is what I do for testing and normal operation.. I remove the microSD card from the Pi, then write the img file to a low profile USB drive then plug it into the USB port.

JJ,
So am I understanding you right? You never have a micro sd card inside the unit and only run it from the usb? If that works well, that would eliminate huge frustrations!? Changes could be so much easier. The only downside seems to be? wear on the usb and possible damage of breakage.?

What if you used a USB based SD reader/writer with a high endurance card?

Correct. I don't want to give away all my secrets :)? That is why I use the low profile USB drives as to not damage or break anything.

?

For my RasPi station computer I use a 128meg SSD. It works well and it's faster, especially with app initiation. But having an SDD card hanging off the side of the radio really complicates hauling it around and being out on the beach.

The idea this group gave me was to do all my testing using a USB drive. When I get what I want as my final version, I can put that on a MicroSD drive and get rid of the USB drive.

Anyone know a source of a cable like the AWM 20706 in small quantities?

The "final version" is chosen by everyone, I don't think the time will come for someone not to come up with a new idea!

I bought these as I had the same problem.

Here is another solution – I have used these with success.

I wonder how well these would work with all the RFI inside the sBitx. Shorter, shielded connections are better, IMO.

You could wrap the cable around some ferrite rod? and see.

This group continues to amaze me. Everyone is very helpful and, even better, they have great ideas and solutions. I expect the cable tomorrow.
