SBITX v3 Potential Audio hardware issue

Paul

Just starting the thread really to separate this discussion from all the other audio related discussions that are in the group.
I have raised an issue that I think is quite serious on the github site?

This is the end of my journey for now until the issue has been responded to appropriately via arfan and github.

It all started because I wanted to improve the audio both on receive and on transmit for SSB use allowing the use of USB or Bluetooth headsets and improve the mic audio widely reported and experienced by me to be too low to be useful. This has led me to this point and as my radio is still relatively new (end of December 23), I want to see where the issue I have raised goes before I do any more.

The microphone input is mono only. ?The line inputs allow left and right channels, stereo. ? Ashhar does a really neat trick where he uses one channel for transmit in the other channel for receive. ?That might be why he prefers to use the line inputs. ? Of course, the amount of gain that you insert between the microphone and them is somewhat up to you. ? I prefer just to use very high output electrets (-24 dB type rating ) ?and it’s not a problem

That might help,

Gordon Kx4z?

I have closed the issue on github based on the document found here?
However it doesn't cover why that route was chosen which may be helpful, I think I understand it logically but not necessarily electrically.
I have also suggested that the github project page could really do with a simple Readme file on the root page with links to useful documents for users to find more easily such as the one indicated and others.
The one indicated is an old document, it probably needs adding to, to reflect changes made since the document was created.

Now I need to solve the Microphone issue and then progress the headset issues as this is more of a usability issue for portable operations with the radio using phone modes.

Gordon, you suggest a -24dB type electret, I have looked around possible UK component suppliers and have not been able to locate one yet, is there a suggested part number/supplier you can recommend? - many of the ones found are not even close to this value where it is specified in the listing.

It doesn't help that not all parts located specify the sensitivity and my maths is a bit rusty for converting mV measurements to dB measurements where sometimes sensitivity is indicated in mV

Also remember that microphone level audio is not necessarily close to line level audio. I like the method used, but I plan to look into this later when my sbitx arrives. (Getting ordered today) Perhaps a small potentiometer on the board to adjust the audio amp closer to the desired level will be needed.

I'm not chiding you in any way because I agree that the documentation in unexpected places but once you know where to look there are some helpful links that are being kept as up-to-date as possible.

Our groups.io page sidebar looks like:

The bottom entry, Wiki, brings you to /g/BITX20/wiki which is as it says, our main Wiki page.

You see it has sections on the earlier bitx and ubitx radios, along with a section for sbitx.

The sbitx section has sub-sections on papers, video presentations, documents, etc.

It also has a pointer to our Howto's Page which has a lot of tribal knowledge shared via this forum and others.

At the end of the wiki page there is a wiki cheatsheet which explains how to add to the Wiki.

The point is, as hfsignals.com points out in its help/about tabs, the support for the radio comes from this community.

We really have no other choice but help each other out, there is no support line to call.

All noted Dave and I found it eventually.
Still think the sbiitx github page needs a pointer adding to the groups page/wiki in case users land on there first

Most of the leg work to do this is in but that PR is stalled (it seems) over how user-facing documentation should be handled.

If you look at or my use of it in you will see it provides a rich-text environment where such links could be included.? It has a link to this group, but yes, it would be nice if it also had a link to this group's wiki and it's howto's page.
