Still Not Working
Hi guys, those of you that saw my posts earlier in the week know that I have not been able to transmit with my Bitx40. It was sort of determined after going back and forth with a few of you that the final was blown in my radio. From the moment that I turned on the radio I've had a dummy load on it so I was really going to be surprised if the final was blown but it was worth a try for all the more the replacement IRF510's cost.?
Well I'll I unsoldered the original final and installed a new one that I bought from Digikey and it still doesn't work. Power on with no speaker attached it pulls 150mA. With the mic keyed it pulls 267mA. The blue trim pot has no impact on receiving or transmitting current. It's rock solid at the values listed above. I don't see any imperfections on the board and I hear the relays pulling in when I key up. I have power connected to the PA connection.? As much as I want this to work I really feel like giving up and that I've been had by Mr Farhan. I know that may be a cardinal sin for saying that on here but it seems like I have no recourse other than to turn him into PayPal at this point in time. I'll admit I'm an Electronics Technician although a little rusty after being away from component level troubleshooting for the last 25 years. I don't think it's been too much to ask that as long as I didn't make any wiring mistakes that this should at least receive and transmit after doing the wiring. Any help would be greatly appreciated.? |
Re: Crystal matching for ubitx
Farhan is right. It is less important that the signal level be as such and such,
than that they be frequency matched as closely as possible. Of course it helps if they exhibit about the same activity, but it is secondary. I think what you have is the one xtal in the batch which gave perfect resonance in your oscillator. Sometimes that happens! Yeah, more time at the pub... john AD5YE |
Re: 2 BITX-40's
Hey, Ron --
I know it can be a bit of a visual pain, but really you should be worrying less about how it looks than how it performs. I have wound and mounted a lot of toroid coils and, at first, they would pull through the holes is such a way that the look was very awkward. But, as long as they were wound well and were soldered in properly, they all worked very well. I suppose one has to wind and mount a few before learning the tricks, such as pressing a bit on the coil before soldering to make it upright...but all the coils properly done with good materials worked. And that is the real test. Hi. Wait until you start winding baluns and such. Yikes! john AD5YE |

VK3YE Improved audio mod, Using a variable capacitor in place of C102
In this video, Peter shows how to modify the audio by changing capacitance at C102 (47p).? The change in audio characteristics applies to both RX and TX.? Peter shows how a slightly higher tone is an advantage while using QRP.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IELJwapv5qs An alternate method to using capacitors of fixed value is to use a variable capacitor.? This allows trimming the capacitance while listening to audio.? You can select the tone you wish to hear and transmit on. The following capacitor from Digikey will fit directly into the C103 holes.? Note that C103 is parallel to C102.? If this capacitor is added, remove C102. I have done this mod and it works on RX.? You have to adjust the trimmer capacitor a bit to get good audio RX; when out of range, things sound a bit strange.? But after initial adjustments, you can fine tune it in.? I raised the tone a bit to pass more of the higher frequency audio.? I have not received any audio reports yet, so I can't speak to results on transmit. |

Same source I use. If you order more than one, mention my name and ask if you can get a discount of some kind. I don't know if he'll remember me, but I told him I would throw business his way in hopes he would discount on multiples. BTW, the Mega 2560 Pro from Banggood will NOT work with my PCB. (Notice they call it Pro, not Pro Mini.) Their pin spacing is different. I did run several of the Example programs and they all seemed to work. Given that it costs about half the Pro Mini, it might be worth considering if you're looking for a Mega with a smaller footprint. I got my first kit with a coil bent but NP I just moved it up again using no force I have glued all my coils and my bitx 40 works well I think you will find yours will? Be OK its a very good radio kit? On 12 Jul 2017 19:08, "Jack Purdum via Groups.Io" <econjack=[email protected]> wrote:

Can't you use your DMM and check for continuity on the bottom side of the board where the coil is soldered? What am I missing here? Is there a printed circuit board available for the UBITX or will there be a board available for purchase at a later date. Dale On Wed, Jul 12, 2017 at 3:47 AM, <jim@...> wrote: Thank you both for the help, and well spotted, yes sorry, 12mhz not 20mhz, that was a?fundamental?mistake I guess :-)? |

Re: 2 BITX-40's
Hi Ron Don't worry too much about the positioning of the coils, the yellow ones are the LPF and BPF, I would check the pads underneath them for continuity with a DVM, maybe move them a little*, check again, and if they pass this test, then go ahead ad assemble your BitX, have fun!On Wed, Jul 12, 2017 at 11:51 AM, R S via Groups.Io <rons8@...> wrote: Hi to all, |
