Re: uBITX Calibration

Tnx Evan
Yes also here have some other (newer Rigs.)
I had yesterday CW QSO on 20m to Lithuana, on 30m to Germany and Belgium, today on 20m to Belgium and Hungary.?
Power with abt 6 Watts on 20m is enough for me. This Rig schould be used for CW most 17m 20m 30m.
More important for me is that the Keyer works well and that the Rig is easy to handle.
I have here at home shack a FT-991 and a FT-857. Also a FT-991 on my sailing ship. And for QRP /p a KX3 two PFR-3a and soon a (tr)uSDX.?
I sailing to a quite island here in the Aegean sea, spend some days on it, and operate QRP, if it has a SOTA Summit then activate them. I made here a lot of first activation on lonely islands.
Now time for a Siesta...

Re: zbitx getting ready to be shipped ...

I too couldn't find my order confirmation email, so I just waited patiently.
?
Last night I got two emails - one from HFSignals and one from PayPal, both alerting me that my order had shipped with an estimated arrival date of the 26th.
?
For those who think there's something to be gained from knowing, my order was #3251, I ordered my zBitx within a couple hours of the radio being offered.
?
Sorry for the broad email, but I just wanted to encourage my fellow buyers who can't find their order confirmation emails that HFSignals is pushing thru the orders, and you will be notified when your unit ships.

Re: uBITX Calibration

Erich,
?
Very nice work on the case!
?
One mod you might want to do is Allison's power flattening on uBITX.net:
?
?
I do this to all ubitx that I work on and own.? It has always more than doubled the output on 10 meters.? It also moves the 40-meter dip in power to 30 meters.? Reflections from the impedance mismatch caused by the Q90 input impedance cause the dip.? I have determined that this is the cause of the output drop on 40 meters with bench measurements.? If I remove Q90 and replace it with a 50-ohm resistor, oscilloscope measurements verify that the output of the first mixer goes to a square wave at the fundamental frequency.? I have yet to work out a solution to this issue.? I stopped working on the uBITX when the sbitx came out.

Re: uBITX Calibration

Thanks Evan

Today I loaded an old Config from 2022, an hurra I am now only 30 Hz off the QRG. also with TX.
The Audio Filter can switch 300 / 1000 Hz. Maybe I make something to bypass them.
Maybe the BFO I adjust a bit.

Ok will check and try Mark's Software.

Just had 2 QSO in CW - from SV8 (I am here on Lesvos) 1. to Begium 2.To Hungary.
The RIG makes nearly 6 Watts on 20m

Excellent
That will slow down the add me to the list.
I will order when you get caught up.

Re: zbitx getting ready to be shipped ...

From now on, we will accept orders only when we can ship within ten days. That may take another few weeks to get there.

Re: uBITX Calibration

Eric,
Nice upgrades. ?I am doing these for another Ham. ?He opted for the LaserBeams-Vari filter with the added display for filter control.
?
I suggest that you try Mark’s calibration software. ?That should be easier than the manual method, and may be the only option if you cannot switch out the digital audio filter. ?It would be bear impossible to zero beat WWV with the filter.

Re: uBitX V6 --> adding separate fuse for finals.

KK7BCO,
?
The article you are using is for the v5 and earlier uBITX. ?The P1 connector did provide separate feeds to the PA and the rest of the radio. ?On the v6, The two pins are connected together under the plug. ?You could remove the connector, cut the trace, and then reinstall the connector.
?
It is not worth doing just to provide separate fusing. ?If you want to get a little more power out, you can provide separate power to the PA, maybe 20 volts. ?That requires two power supplies or one higher voltage and a buck converter to drop to 12 volts for the rest of the radio.
?
3 amps is the correct fuse for the radio when operating on 13.8 volts. ?The maximum current that I have measured is 2.5 amps.

uBitX V6 --> adding separate fuse for finals.

Hello,
Last time I used my uBitx the magic smoke was released. The radio was idling, just listening to something (probably FT8) when I noticed a glow in the room and pulled the plug. It looks like I may have just burnt the trace nearest the edge on the underside, which I think is the main power rail to the switch/pot. I repaired this today and the unit powers on, but I won't test it properly until it is back in the case with everything connected properly.
?
On here there is mention of connecting separate fuses for the main board and the finals, using the P1 header. My brain gets confused by schematics which have breakouts, so I do not understand how P1 is connected: the article suggests that 3 connects to ground (correct) and that 1 and 2 connect to the main board power rail and the finals rail (not sure which is which). My DVM probing is showing the schematic's suggestion that 1 and 2 are connected rather than being separate.
?
So, my question to anyone who has performed this addition, or is better understanding of the schematic, is whether I should disconnect the center pin of the barrel connector and connect two wires running to the two fuses, then respectively connected to pins 1 and 2 on P1, or whether I should be tapping a trace elsewhere for the finals, or just run two fuses in series (!?). Or just a single 3A (or 5A) fuse.
?
When I had my magic smoke episode I did have a 5A fuse, but it may have been one of questionable origin in the power distribution block. I have subsequently replaced all my fuses with Littlefuse things, since they do seem to burn when they should.
?
Thank you,
KK7BCO

Re: zbitx getting ready to be shipped ...

Probably after the current batch is all out, going to their purchasers, and when HFSignals has had a chance to replenish stock of necessary components...and perhaps they may get some sleep ?. I'm pretty sure some of the crew isn't ready for crunch time again so soon.?

My thanks and utmost respect to all the crew at HFSignals! You are fantastic! ??????

Re: zbitx getting ready to be shipped ...

Search Emails for "hfsignals" ? Is auto correct really helpful???? I dunno.?

Re: zbitx getting ready to be shipped ...

There is a link in the order confirmation from HF Signal. Do a search in your emails for resigns.

Re: zbitx getting ready to be shipped ...

Where do you check for zbitx status?
