For Audio Spectrum Analysis I use RTA Audio.?? There is a Free version and a inexpensive purchase version for both iOS and Android. I've found it very useful. Dave WI6R On Wed, Jan 24, 2018 at 5:42 AM, Bill Bates <billy.bates@...> wrote:

开云体育I have the same issue that oddly is getting worse over time with no change to the Radio other than firmware.I’ve started replacing critical leads with shielded cable but agree that audio filtering might help if early enough. My headphones already roll off at 6000 so it way down but still annoying. Work continues... Dave WI6R Sent from my iPhone On Jan 24, 2018, at 8:54 AM, Jerry Gaffke via Groups.Io <jgaffke@...> wrote:
John reports audio tones up around 15khz. That is not in the normal SSB passband and may be perfectly normal for this rig. Best solution here may be shielding and perhaps audio filtering. Farhan's fix for interference between the 16mhz nano oscillator and the 12mhz bfo was to move the bfo down by perhaps 3khz. The harmonics involved here are the 3rd and 4th respectively, to give 48mhz. Moving the bfo down 3khz would only move the tones down by 12khz. I don't think replacing the raduino is going to fix a 15khz tone. If it is loud enough to be objectionable, this particular rig may have some sort of extra coupling between the two due to loose wires or something. ? The Bitx40 also had a 16mhz nano and 12mhz bfo, I don't recall this issue ever coming up, so perhaps some sort of shielding or filtering is the answer. The uBitx has the Raduino mounted directly on the main board, the nano very near the modulator/demodulator? That's good and bad, we want the 12mhz clk0 connection to be very short. So still some open questions here. |

开云体育I printed a front panel.? But I used a huge 4x20 I2C LCD, now not much room for controls. I have Volume/SW and Rotary, have not put the jacks in yet. I could make an STL of a Blank panel if it would be of use to anyone? Or maybe put the 16x2 LCD centered? I have a Hictop 3D printer from a kit.? I had to turn the part lengthwise. It keeps the heat more
even in the center of the build? I have the heated plate turned all the way (200) and the extruder to about 125 for ABS. The edges of long thin parts curl up.? I found turning up the bed helped this? I have not tried PLA??
To much trouble to change.? I had problems with PLA melting on
a hot day when in the car! Lots of printers may
not quite have the room? 73's Mike On 1/24/2018 9:25 AM, Arvo KD9HLC via

Re: Oscilloscope for Beginners - A story
开云体育The Rigol I got had about 17 hrs. on the meter.? It still was running all the options they turn off after 30 Hrs.
At the time they were
$299 new, I bid $260 on eBay.? What a deal, and you get 4 new
probes!? No tax and just a little shipping. There are tons of information out there on the DS1054Z.??? Lots of reviews.? Only big complaints are too much on the screen and it is very small.? The encoders have small knobs, and you have to push just right or the encoder might move?? There is a hack out in the wild to change the options yourself, so you get 100 Mhz and special triggering functions, and deep memory.?? You do it at your own risk.? You can find info on lots of sites.? I doubt if their newer models have this "feature"? I just wish it was a little bigger.? I hope it stays working now that I am bragging about it! I really hated my $65 PC connected scope mentioned to start this thread.? Hantek had NO support and no Firmware updates.? I had to
carry a big 600V 1uf cap to AC couple it.? The triggering
options were very minimal. Like you I really like Real Analog scopes, but their day is gone. 73's Mike, WA6ISP

Re: Almost all of the firmware has been modified to fix known bugs and enhance CAT communications.
Cool! Did you hook up the PPS line? That would allow for time synchronization that far exceeds what is necessary for these modes, but might as well do it anyway as it is just one GPIO...
I have a Raspberry Pi based NTP server on my home network that uses the GPS+PPS method, been rock solid for years now. This also brings up other thoughts like automatically setting the gridsquare in WSJT-X. |

Two clarifications to my last message
My comment about the radii was in response to Arvo, not a criticism of Mike's design.? If fact, Mike posted while I was still typing.? His aversion to the metric system aside, Mike's design chops far exceed what I cobbled together. I am measuring with cheap tools and designing with a free CAD program.? This works for me.? I don't think I would recommend a $3 harbor freight caliper and tinkercad for mission critical or life support designs. |

and John's post had me prowling around ebay some. Anything moderately cheap is "parts only", refurbished you spend about as much as you would for a new Rigol. Unless you get a really good deal on one you know works, I can't recommend an old used scope to the typical hobbyist. Fixing those old scopes with all their custom parts can be non-trivial. Re: Almost all of the firmware has been modified to fix known bugs and enhance CAT communications.
I did it today. We're planning to post it on the blog after the test. I removed the usb connector and planted a sound card and gps in place. this is simple and funnfy work. After installing the GPS, I got a very a funny thought. I am going to experiment with various things this weekend. 2018-01-25 1:33 GMT+09:00 <al_91dak@...>: I ran across this video on YouTube last night, interesting work you are doing there. I am (im)patiently awaiting my uBITX with the same goal of creating a self-contained JT9/FT8 rig. Have you considered adding a GPS module to the Raspberry Pi for time synchronization "in the field"? |

Re: Oscilloscope for Beginners
Found this long time ago at
Enjoy!!! ================================================== Hot Rod Oscilloscope? ? by Dennis L. Feucht
?
With apologies to the '60s hit tune, "Hot Rod Lincoln"
?
You've heard the story of the bandwidth race,
Where 'scopes and counters were setting the pace;
Well that story is true, I'm here to say;
I was using a 545A.
?
It's got a graticule, all lit up,
That front-panel claptrap makes it look tough.
It's got plug-ins, uses 'em all;
It's got good risetime, and also fall.
?
With a dual-trace display at reasonable cost,
And forty-eleven knobs, you can really get lost;
It's got a dual-delayed timebase, but I ain't scared,
The trace is sharp; the probes are fair.
?
Pulled out a new project late one night,
The test equipment was burning bright,
I started driving a wideband amp,
To see which stage I needed to damp.
?
When all of a sudden in the blink of an eye,
A series of waveforms passed me by,
And I said, "Wow, that's a marvel to me!"
Pretty soon a square-wave was all I could see.
?
Now the boss was ribbing me for being behind,
So I thought I'd make the probes unwind,
Took the volts per div knob, and man alive!
I turned it up to a setting of 5.
?
Powered the wideband amp again,
And drove it with a function gen,
Set the amplitude knob to three or four,
The levels were hitting the ceiling and floor.
?
Now the transient response made no sense,
The scope display looked like a picket fence.
I slowed it down and was glad to know,
That it wouldn't alias like a DSO.
?
I tweaked the circuit here and there,
Replaced a cap and transistor pair;
Got the speed I needed with room to go;
Manufacturing would be glad to know.
?
Smoke was coming from out of the load
When I set the trigger to hf mode;
The power bandwidth was looking right;
Nearly approaching the speed of light.
?
The task was finished, the specs first-rate,
The customers called, said the amp worked great;
I got a promotion, moved out of L.A.,
And I credit success to that '45A!
?
