Re: show your mic

Max,

From board to board there will always be some variation of gain.

You can increasing the mic gain by reducing the resistor

BITX40 - R123
uBITX - R63

You could try the mic gain control I described recently.

You could also increase the drive

BITX40 - R136
uBITX - RV1

Surprisingly, the PTT button works through the heat shrink tubing. So, I did not cut an opening to expose it - the button is "weatherproofed".

Re: Update to the VK2ETA variation of Ian Lee's KD8CEC uBitx software #ubitx

Uploaded a new version at this location:

/g/BITX20/files/Variations%20on%20KD8CEC%20Software%20%28by%20VK2ETA%29%20+%20ATU%20sketch/uBitx-Raduino-KD8CEC%20based-VK2ETA-Variation%20-%20V20180422.zip

Continuously looking for program size reduction to have as many features as possible concurrently in the Nano's memory.

Inspired by Ian Lee's KD8CEC version 1.701, I included a modified version of his TinyLCD library.

Compared to the complete default LiquidCrystal library this cut down version saves 452 bytes of program flash memory.

I made it into an object oriented class so it can be easily retrofitted into other projects as there are only two lines of code to change.

All the best,

Re: Hyderabox!

Yes Ken it was a tongue in cheek comment. Although it is a good box for the uBITX and true there is a lot of room to add accessories inside. That handle is convenient for a grab and go rig too.
I¡¯m still finishing up mods on mine before I install it into an unused Ten Tec enclosure I have that is similar to the Argonaut (505,509) only smaller. I have had it around for just such a project and the board just fits too.
I haven¡¯t been to Dayton in a few years and miss it, maybe next year.

If you go to Dayton/Xenia you'll see plenty of these 2m and 6m lunchboxes offered up for very modest prices, if I find one clean enough I'd get one and do it myself - it's a great case and includes lots of room for a battery pack!

The way Ian packages his IDC code is a bit problematic because when you unpack it¡ it over-writes his old code in the Arduino IDC.? Simply including the VERSION NUMBER in the file name/ directory would solve this issue.

Re: receiver overload

Thanks for all the ideas and interesting comments.

I think you are right Tim, the tuner is acting as a filter.

I don¡¯t think I had the problem with a previous antenna - a standard 40m dipole fed with coax.
Maybe the window line to the ZS6BKW is picking up too much noise.

I¡¯ll reinstall that dipole antenna and test again when I get time.

That's always a possibility.

Some tuners also can act as low-pass filters or even as a parallel tuned

work to lower the noise in the receiver. But I don't think this happens
very often.
