Re: BITX40

I think this clicking is the VFO getting the signal to keep tuning up or down in frequency. Did you use the disc capacitor on the tuning potentiometer according to instructions? I think this is the area you need to focus your trouble shooting on. Including the potentiometer as possibly bad. But start with the tuning pot and capacitor, make sure you used the correct wires from the correct 8 wire connector.

Re: uBITX 1.08 and S-meter
If you have the AGC kit, all you have to do is hook the ubitx 's-meter' wire to it.? It goes to the first pin where that jumper goes on the row of pins. Works fine for me once the software numbers are set for it. On Thu, Jul 12, 2018 at 2:48 PM, Bill Carpenter <nz0tham@...> wrote: Thanks guys, I need to build and install the AGC kit next.? Yes, these are compatible. I have 2 3.2's and a 3.5 from them and they all work as they should

According to Nextion you aren't supposed to do that though as too low a voltage (according to them) will damage the Nextion's circuitry (haven't figured out why) but that's why they send you that little USB power block so you can check it. I'd be more inclined to attempt finding the backlight conneciton on the back of the board and putting the resistor there instead - that way the on board processor doesn't see less voltage than it should. ? My uBITX is finally finished. The Hammond case was a tight fit and the knobs came from my junkbox. The manipulator is home made and the microphone is housed in an old pill box.
It did not want to know about the straight key at first, so I upgraded to KD8CEC firmware. This knocked out both keys. After trying three different uBITX firmware packages and two different uBITX managers, I reverted to the default firmware. It could be that the uBITX manager and I did not agree with each other. Finally, it accepted both keys, although the straght key sounded a bit flakey until I cleaned the morse key points. |

BITX40

Hello, my Name is Heinz,
I bought the BITX40 and connected the wires, Pots and DC, Speaker, Mic and what happened was a strange sound in the Speaker as a buzz in the speaker and a seethe but no receiving. What did I do to fix the problem: I put a capacitor of 1000 ?F and an Ceramic capacitor with 100 nF to the voltage regulator on the raduino between 12 V and the Ground. The result of it: no changes in the speaker and only seethe sound as it was before. Today I put a second capacitir also with 1000 ?F between the raduino powerline 12 Volt and now there is no longer the loud interferende as it was before. But the receiver seems to be deaf and I receive no "normal" signals on 40 m So at last I beg you pardon for my bad english and hope to fix the problem. Here is a soundfile of the bitx40 BEFORE today, what you hear is the clicks by tuning, but this is not so bad, what you also may here is the seethe sound before, who now was fixed as I wrote here. The problem is still, that there is no signal wich comes from Shortwave, It seems only as a very disturbed noise Kind regards Heinz Heinz |
Nextion Display generates a tone in the audio
#ubitx
After getting the 3.2" enhanced Nextion display working with my V3 uBITX, I noticed an annoying tone in the audio that went away when the Nextion was disconnected.? Tracking it down, it appeared to be getting out of the display board on the 5V power lines so I added more bypassing to the leads coming from Raduino power.? Didn't faze it.? Thinking it might be a ground loop, I added more grounding to the Raduino but that didn't help much either.
Speaking with a few people on it, the suggestion was made to power the display from an "off the Raduino board" supply but before I got a chance to build that up, Sheldon Gofberg on the uBITX Facebook group pointed me to the answer. The tone is being generated on the Nextion board.? There is a "Display" brightness control in one of the menus that allows you to set your backlight brightness with a couple of sliders.? The way this brightness is controlled is by pulse width modulating the DC supply to the backlight LED.? It's this PWM oscillator that's causing the tone because it apparently isn't sufficiently decoupled on the board itself to keep the tone off of the DC supply line and it gets coupled back into the 5V supply on the Raduino and subsequently causes it to wind up in the uBITX audio chain and so on. The quick fix is simply to set the display to full brightness which actually turns off the PWM and the tone goes away. Next project is to try the external 5 volt supply independent of the the Raduino and see if that allows for brightness control again without the tone getting into everything.? Jim Sheldon, W0EB |
