Thanks Allison. Those steps are what I am doing. Radio works fine. I test after each mod. So far, so good.?

You are a great resource.

Thanks for the suggestion but¡.no go. its lit up but all im getting is black blocks on top and green on bottom. It was working great, then one day it just quit. Im not getting any sound or anything. But onceagain, thank you

Dan, So far so Good.? while the RIG is off? press and hold the rotary switch , while that time position, switch on the rig.

The rig should go to refresh its firmware.

?Let us see what happens.

Dan,
It could be several things but start with the easiest first.? There is a trimmer pot on the Radiuno that controls the contrast on the lcd.? Try adjusting that and see if anything happens.

Re: uBitX PTT cycling

It is clear to me that I am so very less skilled than most here.

I have a brand new Board and Raduino, completely stock, just connected everything and powered up.? Lights up.? Encoder works.? No Audio.? When I Push PTT, T/R relay Chatters similar to post above, about 5 cycles.? Release PTT, and Receive LED lights.

I noted that a Red LED on the Raduino cycles in time with the T/R relay.

See the "Brand New" note above? Figured I killed My First Board and Raduino by connecting Power leads reversed polarity, caused by using a wrong color order connector provided by Case Manufacturer without checking.? But Both Radios have same symptoms (after correcting Power Wiring and Connector)!? No Audio at all, and Recieve mode quiet.? PTT Actuation causes same Chatter.

Hope this sounds familiar to somebody - I have built many, many kits over the Years. But this is my first foray into SMD and MicroComputer control...

Re: Spurs/Harmonics fixes for v4 based on v5 board design?

With the new RSP1A, the difference between them may be cutting hairs.?

For HF, the Airspy HF+ interests me, as it looks like it may be the best for low bands. For a spectrum analyzer the RSP1A has continuous coverage HF through UHF so you can look at the harmonics beyond 30Mhz without a gap.

Even for HF receiver usage the differences between these good SDR receivers may be cutting hairs.

For a spectrum analyzer the 10Mhz (or less) span is no big deal as the spectrum analyzer controller software if free to jump around in frequency, any way it wants. For the sport of hunting down and catching an intermittent signal, or monitoring all the HF ham bands "simultaneously" for a band opening, that may be different.

While I was puzzling over which SDR to get, I bought a more reasonably priced "Ham it Up" up converter and a SDR dongle, so I could try to sort out what concerns were real and which imaginary. I was really surprised how well the up-converter/dongle combo works for casual listening on the Ham bands and haven't pursued the better SDRs. Because I have the same interest as others, to cobble together a reasonably cost SA, the choice for an upgrade may be to get the RSP1A. ?

display not working

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hey guys. Im Dan. I recently purchased and built the ubitx v4.3 .? it worked great for a few days and then the stock 16x2 display quit working.? I¡¯ve got black across the top and it¡¯s blank on the bottom row. Its lit up and the red led is lit on the back of the board. Any ideas. Thanks for your help. Your new member Dan

Re: Looking for a ubitx

Or you could spend that DHL fee to choose UPS overnight service.
Or you could simply decide to help somebody out who wants to unload an extra rig.
Or maybe they're local.
Or whatever.
Your choice.

My first Bitx40 took a couple months, going around the world twice..
USPS tracking showed more than a dozen scan checks.

Your mileage may vary.

Re: Audio Buzzing

The case should be ground connect to it.? ?The best way is with a screw and a star washer.
Star washers will even pierce the paint but better to scrape it off.
The board mounting holes are ground use metal spacers to the case.
In all cases any paint on the inside needed to be removed to make a good connection.

I'd have built first with Raduino and verified working then stepped to the enhanced panel.

Use twisted pair for such a short hop to the antenna connector.

I prefer powerpole over those barrel connectors.? Only preference.

the power path to the enhanced board need to have a good ground the same as the
main board.

One last thing if the code is messed up it could be injecting the tone/buzz into the radio.

uBitX PTT cycling

Just finished the wiring of a v4 uBitX and I am running KD8CEC v1.1 with a 2.8" Nextion screen. Everything seems to work (not happy with the low and slightly distorted audio, but will address that later), and with no microphone plugged it it seems to be working just as expected and as it did with a breadboard layout before I started wiring. However, with the microphone plugged in to the 4-pin jack I added I am getting continuous cycles into and out of transmit about 5 times per second. If I hold PTT or press the CW key down (4.7K resistor is installed) it goes into steady transmit, but once release it starts toggling transmit again.

The microphone being used is a surplus Motorola speaker/mic that I've used successfully on my BitX40. It does have some unknown internal circuitry and shows about 1.4K between the PTT line and the electret mic line...nothing that affected the BitX40, but in that rig it was operating a relay and here it seems to be pulling down the A3 PTT input on the Raduino. My suspicion is that the load drops the voltage across the internal pullup resistor on the Arduino low enough to signal transmit, then it immediately drops out and returns to receive. So, without surgery on the microphone on a circuit I don't have any information about, isn't there something I could do here? Could I supply 5v through a dropping resistor directly to the A3 input, and would I have to disable the internal pullup resistor if I did? Can I adjust the trip point of the A3 input through software somehow?

Allison,

I am building a bitx40 for a ham in the metal case from India. What would be the best way to ground everything?

I put a ground lug on the front corner of the board, and ground off the paint around the antenna, PCB mounting points, display, etc.?
The grounds for the controls go to the lug. The antenna connection is about 2¡± long. Would there be any benefit to using coax?

I am putting PowerPoles for DC input instead of the barrel connector, and will ground the negative to the case.

Re: cat and digital

should add that I put in two 1:1 audio transformers in line for isolation and a used a dpdt switch to move it between digital and voice mode. On a second one I used a stock relay to do the dpdt duties and swiched it with a spst switch. I tend to use components at hand so that was the reason for the switch.

Re: cat and digital

I use a usb sound card mounted in the case and just run two usb cables to the computer. The normal computer functions with the built in sound card and the radio is assigned to the usb card.

Got a usb sound card that works well from Amazon for 7 dollars.

Re: cat and digital

The CAT functions are done through the USB port on the Arduino Nano.? The sound is through the audio and mic out of the uBitx into the computer through a sound card.? I will be trying it with a laptop built in sound card, however have not done so yet.

Can someone tell me if I need a cat cable to the computer or is it handled through the US port on the arduino?

Does the digital mode need a sound card or is it handled via USB?

I'd love to send you a SASE for parts to do your TX mod.? How do I get your call sign info for a QRZ/address lookup?

Please forgive my stupidity (as I don't do a lot of forums).
