Hi Martin, I am really about the same relative spot as you are in building. My suggestion? would be to heat sink the unit, get the ubitx working stock, then make changes after all is functional.?

I use flrig for the 817 , works great and its "free", simple but good. Set it up for the 817 using 4800 baud and the cat control cable to USB Here is a screenshot sudo apt-get install flrig on Ubuntu

For improving spectrum compliance you want to replace L5 and L7 and replace the relays with axicoms . Those are the more critical IMO? -- -- KB1HYR --
