The kit actually came with three tools to wind T25, T30, T37, T50, T80 and T105 toroids.

I would connect that TX signal to one side of the new PTT relay, ground to the other side, and then a protection diode across the new relay coil with the band (cathode) going to the +side of the relay, and the anode connected to ground.

No no, partly yes. The amp side is correct but on uBitx side connect one end of coil to ground

and other end to TX (12V on TX).. simplest. I usually dont recommend connecting to PTT line

as any mishap will let out the magic smoke of the nano.

Good one Luca,

Be honest about it, ive never burned up a radio or finals after i achieved my general class license back in the day.And anyone on a tight budget like me, you just dont throw away money by burning up your own gear.

just my take on it.

I built a 70 W amplifier, but it never did work.? I believe that the directions I had said that you can only get 30 watts of output out of it without purity issues, and it is more than 3 db down as compared to a 100 watt transceiver.? I am going to recommend using a EB63A amplifier from Communications Concepts.

I have built that kit and have had issues meeting purity requirements with a 5-pole LPF.? There is also a potential issue with VSWR on the input to the amp.? I would review this article before powering the amp on:

That ham used a 7pole LPF to meet purity requirements.

I suggest you use a spectrum analyzer to verify the purity of the signal and a power/SWR meter on the input to confirm that you will not damage the uBitx and not overdrive the amp.? Note that you cannot use a NanoVNA to test the input SWR as the input SWR changes with the gain of the amplifier.

I would also suggest you have a couple of spare IRF520 or IRF530 to replace if one fails during the build.? It may be that I am not careful enough or not thinking of all things that I should.? I went through 3 sets of MOSFETS until I got it right.? When replacing the MOSFETS, use two from the same batch as there is only one bias control for adjustment.

I made it work after adding the suggested resistor across the secondary of the input transformer and reducing the power of the uBitx to less than 5watts using VR1.

Have fun with the build!

Evan,

Thanks. That is what I needed to know. Now to determine which of the six pins is #1. Schematic uses different numbering sequence than the data sheet for the relay. K3, KC1,KB1 and KA1 all show the numbering on the Schematic that the product data sheet shows.?

I use this guy.

Or any cheap USB sound dongle. Jamb the sound card into your pc.? Hook the headphone jack of the sound card to the uBITX mic input.? Hook the mic input of the sound card to the uBITX speaker output. Make 100% sure wsjt-x sees the new sound card under wsjt-x audio. Fiddle with level setting.? Use a sperate usb cable to connect the little usb port on the Arduino to your PC.? Configure in WSJT-X.??

Go into FT8 land and enjoy.

good info for the ones who need info on swr meters.

unfortunately there are some who ignore these basic tips,? they ignore this basic tool just like the field strength meter. Then they wind up burning their rigs up due to highly mismatched impedances. and the lack of understanding.

I use a field strength meter with all my transceivers. I have several, which range from simple to exotic. exotic meaning i have the meter in the shack, and the sensing unit in the yard. Actually 3 of them and i can tell if my antenna i built at the time is either efficient or not. Ive seen 1:1 swr but crappy field strength readings because of the "tuner"

Really is no reason for burning up radios even in these technologically advanced scenarios.

I get the banannas saved up i will be buying one of Ashhars new sbitxs. For now, im going to order another ubitx.

Re: Ubitx Ver 6 need PTT circuit for Linear AMP

Ideally the amp would go into TX 10-20ms before the radio as well as staying keyed for 10-20ms after the radio stops transmitting. This would prevent HOT keying of the radio and burning of relay contacts.
