Re: Problem with demaged BITX40
I too have an intermittent problem with a loose coil. Not sure which one just yet, but when I tap it the receiver goes quiet. I'm pretty sure (I hope) it's just a bad solder connection. Working fine

SOLVED Re: [BITX20] Bitx40 low volume oscillation squeal
Had some time to mess around with this problem before the supper bell and figured out at least what was causing the problem.
I started by getting several other new pots out of my stock of such items,

Re: Battery Recommendation?
Well, I use a 5ah agm deep cycle that I got from Batteries plus bulbs for $35ish. I had 2 considerations. Available space and weight. The 7 and maybe the 9ah would fit but the radio becomes very

Re: Tracking order
Hang on.
I just got mine. I used none of their so called tracking. Just waited.
Read my post yesterday.

Re: Battery Recommendation?
Thanks Thomas,
I am considering that I can add a solar panel to trickle charge the battery when not in use in the field. I will look into those portable jump start batteries.

Re: Calibration route
That's very promising, those currents you measured are about right. ?Nothing's burning up. ?But I now have no idea why your audio started motorboating/skreeching at the same time as it got stuck in

I haven't tried one, but we discussed those car starting packs previously: ?/g/BITX20/message/20577 ( /g/BITX20/message/20577 )

Re: smoking board
We used to say that a transistor is the fastest fuse with three legs.
Guess the same applies to ICs

Re: Battery Recommendation?
Daniel,
If you figure the BitX as consuming about 200ma on receive, and 1 amp on transmit, and you figure a 4:1 ratio of receiving to transmitting, the average power consumption would be 4 x 200

Re: Bitx40 low volume oscillation squeal
Hi.
First of all, all audio wiring should use shielded wires.
I had a look at the BITX circuit and also at the LM386 data sheet that I am
attaching.
I noticed that the volume control slider

Re: Calibration route
I still think the pin used for calibration is damaged. And I think if you reassign another pin for calibration and upload it, it will work again. You just need to work around the I/O pin not receiving

Re: Bitx40 low volume oscillation squeal
Graham,
you can also try to shield the wires to the volume pot.
In my case this fixed this problem, and it also greatly reduced the tuning
clicks.

Re: Calibration route
Hi
My radio is drawing 150 mA when it is not keyed; it draws 350 mA when it is keyed, but that current flow does not change when I speak into the mic.
The radio is running off a large car battery

Re: Bitx40 low volume oscillation squeal
thank you for the suggestion.
However, doesn't help. Bitx40 is still not mounted in case, The wires
for speaker and volume control are the only ones near each other and
both are twisted i.e. volume

Re: odd behaviour with new library si5351 v2.02 => strong tuning clicks!
By the way, I still don't quite understand how the 1.7ms gaps Don mentioned can cause the clicks/pops.
What exactly happens in these 1.7ms gaps? Is there no output at all? Or is the output frequency

Yes that should work.
I used that emailaddress to order a raduino for my first all-analog
BITX40, and they replied the same day.
