Re: Power zero on 10m / Drive number
Jens,
The power output is determined by the input voltage and the drive setting. Are you using batteries? If there is a sag in the voltage when your radio goes into transmit, the output power will go

Are the FT8 contacts saved? ?If so, aren’t they written to the file system on micro SD card?
if the FT8 contacts are written to the card then couldn’t the file system eventually become corrupted

Re: ZBit newbie
Gerry,
You power off the radio by unplugging the power. According to this post ( /g/BITX20/message/116864 ) from Farhan, there is no data being written to the SD card and the radio

Re: FT8 heat
At idle the backplate is getting somewhat hot. So my guess is that the linear regulator 7805 is getting hot. The radio draws about 450mA of the 9VDC supply so the 7805 will be dissipating some

Yes - this would be the best way to move forward. I would accept the additional cost for a fully switched off radio not drawing current after turning off.

Re: Zbitx arrived today
The station arrived yesterday.
Everything works, nicely packaged, even the test report is included.

Re: #zbitx I would really like a formal way to shut down the software gracefully

Still a pain though. If the filesystem is corrupted badly enough you'd have
to open up the radio, pull out the Micro SD card, and reflash it. If there
were a way to do an orderly shutdown, including a

Maybe the standard distribution could simply poll/interrupt a GPIO line to trigger shutdown.
Then a user could decide how to drive it.
(I would use a three position switch, with the middle position

I must agree,
If nothing gets written, chance is that the filesystem corruption is minimal..
And we do have good backups! Don't we? ?

Hmm. You might (probably ) be right here with that no harm can happen to a system where nothing is written.
Being a old Linux/UNIX-guy, I also simply get nervous doing a hard cut.

Re: ZbitX battery holder wiring
I have removed my battery holder. Looks ugly on the side of the radio.
I run my radio from external 9VDC source anyway.

Re: #zbitx I would really like a formal way to shut down the software gracefully

After shutting down, it will still keep drawing about 150mA of power. We
need a way for the linux to power down the full circuit.
It can, of course, be done with capacitors, 555 timers and smoke

Hi,
I don't know enough about the system and application's architecture to understand the latency issues yet.
Are you using the stock Debian kernel? ?Or a kernel with real-time modifications

Re: Power zero on 10m / Drive number
Matt,
I have logged the 10M power output bug on github ( https://github.com/afarhan/zbitx/issues/24 ).
This seems to be a software bug. The current workaround is to switch to another band (say 20M)

There's a world of possibilities once you open up the source code and start changing it - that is something the designers of this radio hope users will do with this radio...
