USB-C with PD are a better solution as they are less likely to be producing noise. However, you should note that the power bank has to be big enough to provide 3 A @ 9V.

Yes, drive is set to 100 and I am using the native application. The voltage coming off the barrel connector of the included battery holder is 7.56(display shows +7.4v) with 2 brand new fully charged

The only thing to keep in mind is that it will only deliver a certain amount of watts...

I actually prefer step up rather than step down because worse case senario if there's a short, I'd only be putting 5vdc on the output not 12vdc.

I got my zBitX this evening.
Got it on my wifi to sync the time.
I can see ?ft8 decodes. If I TX the sound comes out of the speaker instead of going to the radio. Zero output on a watt meter so no RF
