I was able to order no problem. Wonder if Ashar is still tweaking things, as I now see the sbitx on the front (home) page.

Aaron:

That is absolutely a terrific story!

We need to encourage our young people to investigate our hobby and it can be tough sledding at times. I've told the story before, but at my club's GOTA station during (2015) Field Day, we had a young boy get on the rig. No mic-fright at all and he spent almost an hour talking to people all over the US and Canada. Later, his Mom came to pick him up, and his eyes were the size of hubcaps as he told her about his experience on the radio. Her response: "I'm sure it's a wonderful hobby, but where are you going to get the thousands of dollars it takes to buy the radio?" He looked like he had been shot.

We need to do a better job of informing the public that a viable home station can be put together on a lawn-mowing budget. The entire driving force behind the T41 project was to have a 5-band HF SDR rig with enough power (e.g., 20W) to serve as a base station, but do it at a reasonable price. I know that Hans and Farhan share that same goal in their work to bring excellent radios to market at affordable prices.

Anyway, your taking time to make those contacts is a perfect example of what can be done with a little time investment and I hope more of us can trace your footsteps.

Re: New ubitx v6 no tx

Cameron,

If installed correctly, the BCI filter would not affect the transmitter.? If the receiver stopped working when you removed the BCI filter, then there is still an issue with the modifications made to install the filter.

Can you post a picture of the board where you made the modifications?

I do not think it would be a good idea to try calibrating now. The installation and removal of the BCIfilter should not have affected any of the radio parts that would cause a need to recalibrate.? This is assuming it was installed in the correct location.

I removed the filter, soldered the trace back,( should be back to factory now) did the cw transmit test and am now getting about 10 watts on 20 meters, about 6 to 7 on voice. So it is now transmitting, but has stopped receiving, all I hear now sounds like digital, no voice heard, it was receiving perfectly
Any ideas, re calibration maybe?

On mine i have the n8me software and you can disable the transmit or enable it by pushing the correspondent point . Sometimes after working on it,the transmission is disabled and i have to open up the menu to enable it on the screen. Is this ubitx brand new and you had to assemble it or was it already built?

Just curious. Like evan and others have stated, check for power in CW mode.

As Stephen suggests, the first step is ensuring that the transmitter amplifier is working before looking at the SSB sections.? That is done on the v6 by selecting CW as the mode and using the mic PTT switch to key the uBitx.

If CW does generate over 8watts, then see if you can get any output on the power meter by whistling into the mic.

You can also monitor the current draw of the uBitx to see if the amp is drawing current.? On CW, it can hit 2amps.

Let us know what you find.

Re: uBITX v6 upgrades #nextion

I appreciate the help from someone but I think that I resolved my problem with the case with David's suggestion. It dawned on me at 3:00 this morning. I like to make scrollsaw plaques and sell them for radio and astronomy stuff. I'm nowhere what someone would consider an expert. I think of myself as being ok. Anyway not everyone understands so here are my last two projects.

I was in my shop working on another project. Because of the nonstop triple-digit heat, I work in the middle of the night when it cools down some. Since I have the tools and experience with working with wood, why don't I just make the case out of wood and line it with flashing? The flashing doesn't have to be perfect since it would be hidden by the wood.? It would be much easier for me to get a custom size or shape if needed. It could make my uBITX have a one-of-a-kind look. This should be able to work, shouldn't it?

Re: uBITX v6 upgrades #nextion

Aaron,

you could always buy a plastic case and install copper circuit board or maybe some aluminum flashing glued all around to give shielding. Plastic is easier to drill and cut and the copper sheeting or aluminum flashing can be glued to the surface before installing the guts to your system.Others might have constructed something similar in the group.

Re: sBITX and Ham Bands

You will have to do that each time you boot up if done via commands

I plan to add a telnet facility to allow a remote program to send these commands to the radio. One could operate the radio remotely with just a telnet application, at least for digital modes like the ft8.
This could also be used for scripting it.

With my new case, I am still planning on mounting the RPI inside the case and having the monitor as a separate unit.?

I love to load up my recumbent trike and go to a local park and operate portable for a while. Most of my on-air activity is using digital modes so the long-term plan is to have the RPI mounted in the same case as the uBITX. I would love to see pics of how others combine an RPI with their uBITX for portable operations.

Right now I need to get the uBITX v6 in a case. My metalwork is very lacking so I butchered the case that I was going to use. Now I need to order another one and figure out how to make the holes in the correct locations.?

Coming back for one more question :
I read in your "sbitx/how_gui_is_organized.txt" file? :
"Finally, the cmd field is an interesting field and it goes more than what meets
the eye. Lets imagine that the cmd is set to "freq" and the field type?
is NUMBER, set to max of 7300,000 and min of 7000,000 with a step of 10. Now,
this field can be used to tune the radio up and down the 40 meter band in?
steps of 10 Hz. Each time the value is changed, the function do_cmd() is called
with both the field name and the value in the same string, separated?
by an equal ('=') sign. Like do_cmd("freq=7000000"). "

and in the last manual :
"\freq xxxx
Sets the frequency. You can specify the frequency in KHz or Hz. So,
\freq 7050
is same as
\freq 7050000
You can also use a short-cut and use \f instead of \freq, like
\f 7050"

Does this mean that we can set min and max frequencies of a band as well as the step by typing commands with the gui? That we do not have to modify the sbitx_gtk.c file and recompile a firmware?
