Re: Introduction / Newbie Questions
Reed,
Thanks for the reply and the information. I will take a look at your branch. I'm always willing to learn. I'm not sure I understand your comment that 6.3.1 is older. That's the software I downloaded from GitHub using the link an Ashar's website. Did you mean newer? Thanks for the KF2510 info.? I didn't know the name of the connector. I found a kit on Amazon. Yes, I see the 5v comment in the item title, but at the bottom of the full product description it says: "Note: If you are using this LCD with a 5V device such as an Arduino, be aware that it doesn't work if WITHOUT level shifting to 3.3v logic. Please use level shifters from 5V to 3.3V, it will work then." I'll look into the rotary encoder options. Unfortunately, the wires are cut so close to the connector that there's nothing to solder onto. I might be able to remove the pin and replace it with a pin from the KF2510 kit I just ordered. 73, Mark |

Hi Mark, |
Re: Forgot one question
IW4AJR Loris
Hello, Mark
Normally it is not necessary to disconnect a USB port before turning off the slave or the master, but with the Raduino of the UbITX it is better to disconnect the USB from the transceiver, to avoid any unwanted action from the PC to the NANO,
Obviously only for the total security of the management software and EEPROM data of the uBTX.
Generally, nothing should happen anyway.
Greetings IW4AJR Loris |
Forgot one question
I notice that when I turn off the uBITx (volume control knob), the display stays on if the USB cable is connected. The arduino is getting power from the USB cable. My desktop computer keeps power on the USB port even when the computer is turned off. Should I disconnect the USB cable before powering off the uBITx.

Introduction / Newbie Questions
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI just received my uBITX 6 Saturday. My interest is in updating the Arduino firmware. I¡¯ve been doing Arduino programming since this summer (2020). ?I¡¯ve been successful in compiling and uploading the latest firmware downloaded from GitHub. ? I¡¯ve started some review of the software and hardware and have some questions.? Rather than filling up everybody¡¯s inbox, I¡¯ll put them all in one email. ? Firmware version The screen on my radio displays v6.1 and I can see where that is hardcoded into the source code, but the Readme file in the source package that I downloaded from Github says version 6.3.1. What¡¯s the difference? ? Connectors I like the fact that my radio came with additional connectors for my own hardware mods, but I¡¯d like to buy some more. What are these connectors called, and where can I get some? I¡¯ve looked through a lot of connectors on Amazon, but I can¡¯t find any the look right. ? While the cable to connect the rotary encoder has 8 pins to connect to the raduino, only the 4 going to the rotary encoder have wires, the rest were cut off at the connector. I think it would have been better if they could have left cables that I could have connected to for h/w modifications. I know I could rewire the connector using the spare cable provided, but I was planning on connecting that to the Audio1 header. Has anyone had any luck replacing the cut off cables on this connector? ? Display I located a display on Amazon () ? that appears to be very similar. However, the docs say that it only runs on 3.3V, not 5V and that level shifters are required. I don¡¯t see those on the schematic. Is this display being run at 5v? ? I see that there is a SD card slot on the display board in the uBITx. Can that be used?
Is this a mechanical encoder? I found some similar looking ones on Amazon, but these have click stops. Where can I get an encoder like the one in the uBITx that has no click? ? Digital Interface It looks audio input and output are available on the Audio1 header, but how do control PTT. I guess I could connect to the PTT input on the MIC jack, but is there an internal connection? I¡¯m not concerned about muting the MIC input, I¡¯ll just leave it unplugged. It looks like there is a PTT input at pin 4 on the control connector to the raduino, but as I mentioned, that cable has been cut off. Is there a reason I shouldn¡¯t be using that? ? CAT Interface I used hamlib with the FT847 settings at 38400. The frequency display on FLDigi is changing as I change frequency on the uBITx, but FLDigi frequency display is nowhere near the dial frequency of the uBITx. ? Keying line ?for amp I see a couple of topics on the forum on there. Is there a consensus on the best way to key an external amp? ? That¡¯s it for now. Thanks and 73, Mark, N8ME ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? |
Re: Frequency calibration, Tuning Question, Sound very tinny questions Ubitx V6
This'll help with the BFO adjustment, JT:
You might have to work back and forth a couple of times between VFO and BFO. To check your frequency, dial up one of the WWV time signals.? 5000 KHz and down is better at night.? You should be able to get 10 MHz during the day, and maybe even 15 MHz.? There's an audio tone most minutes.? Load up WSJT-X and use the waterfall to read the frequency.? Using the microphone on a laptop will do the job - no need to connect wires from computer to radio.? The all knowing Wiki has the table of audio freq table: ?Enjoy the tuning! ?73, Andy, KG5RKP ?V3 and V6.2? - CEC on the V3 and the wonderful TSW code (and Teensy 4 Raduino) on the V6 |
Re: Frequency calibration, Tuning Question, Sound very tinny questions Ubitx V6
I guess my 200Khz off frequency may be a bit misleading, Its on receive, and I compared it to my regular HF station on receive listening to a net that runs here every day. I haven't tried TX yet.
This is where I get lost as suggestions for numbers to use etc..., ?I believe refer to a spreadsheet. I had not heard of this till I posted here. Ive looked in the files and think I have found that spreadsheet.? Thanks Bob and all for the suggestions as every little bit helps. I warned everyone that these were Ubitx noob questions....lol |
Re: Frequency calibration, Tuning Question, Sound very tinny questions Ubitx V6
JT, my first question is: What did you use to know you are 200 Hz off frequency? If it's someone's Flex radio, that radio can help you by moving the frequency a slight amount and rechecking and seeing the new number. From this, you can "guestimate" what number to use and recheck until satisfied it's on frequency. Bob ¡ª KK5R

JT, to use the mike as a CW key, you have to be in CW mode and maybe select straight key from the CW menu (Press and? hold tune knob for about 15 seconds). Watch for others' comments on this. Bob ¡ª KK5R
