Re: UBITx V4 Low audio output 80-40-20
#audiocircuit
Ricard, good morning, I'm from Brazil, Ilha Solteira, a barrageiros village in the interior of the state of S?o Paulo. I have an uBITX v4, and I don't hear anything on the normal audio output, I needed to put a speaker box. I installed the uBITX v4 card, a kit ? audio amplifierTDA2030A (5-pin). 73 by Rubens PY2PVB -- Sauda??es fraternais, 73/51 PY2PVBRubens Kamimura Tel. (18) 3746-8680 ramal 116 Cel. My bench is a small desk with a VOM, and loads of hope to actually see what is necessary to work on electronic circuitry. No complaint with the audio output on the AM band, but gets dicey trying to listen to CW in the upper ether. Hearing is not all that good as before. Any ready built or kits that would beat the low audio output in the upper bands? Sure would appreciate it. Thank you. 73/KH2EE |

I used a surplus computer speaker/amp. Since the input of this unit is usually a headphone jack, line out, I used? the speaker output to drive it.
Removed all the controls, power, volume and external jacks to make the board more compact. Set the gain of the amp board mid way with fixed resistors. Found a spot on the left side of the indian cabinet and wired and bolted it on stand offs. The cabinet drills easily . The headphone jack is still at the same level but the speaker is much louder. Not sure of the brand or anything.? Was in a junk box. To keep it simple just use a computer amp/speaker without modification and plug it into the headphone jack.? -- 73 Dave |

I built and installed the audio amp/AGC circuit that was in the July QST article last year. Using it as a preamp was done by inserting it ahead of the volume control and making a few minor changes. Now I am totally satisfied with the volume level and the AGC may be better than any of my commercial rigs.
However, if you want a quick, prebuilt and simple solution, just feed the audio output to an amplified speaker like is sold for computers. =Vic= |

Honestly, my advice is to get the bitx fired up and working without the case. Once you're happy with it, then addressing the issues of mounting it within that case will be trivial.? 73 May the peace be with you.? Since there have been a few posts on people having occasional troubles assembling the V6 "Full Kit" and for some reason they don't seem to be able to find the instructions (plain sight) on HF Signals website, I took the time to write up a fairly comprehensive construction manual for the V6 and did this while actually assembling the last one I bought. ?Okay, nice work but if there are some diffrences are with the measuring like mine, screen and arduinodoes not fit wel, i have to pull up the screen from the mainboard aprox 5 to 6 mm, maybe some contacts wil not work wel?? but then again, nice work. Yes this has changed with newer verions and it may indeed be confusing,
On the newer Raduino's, the 5-pin connector shall be connected to the right side of the 16 pins line. See also this posting: /g/BITX20/message/66263 Hope this helps. 73 Allard PE1NWL |

Thank you.?
I have now ran into something that is confusing. On the HF Signals website, on the BitX40 Wireup step three it shows this pic Looking on the back of the Raduino Assembly it shows an 8 Pin connector at the top of the board and a 5 pin connector on the bottom of the board. On the radio that I am working on, it does not have the 5 pin connector on the bottom but it has 16 pins that come out of the board in the location of the 5 pin connector, then all of the 16 pins turn 90 degrees downward. Is this something that has changed with different versions? I believe that the one I am working on is version 3.? |

Hi Aaron,
The instructions on HF Signals says to put the green wire on the left side tuning control and the yellow wire on the right side of the tuning control. This is viewed from the backside of the tuning control. 73 Allard PE1NWL |

Re: Ubitx V5 Low audio and No SSB

Praba Karan,
If you used a different Nano to upgrade to the KD8CEC software, then you will need to recalibrate.? The calibration data from the factory is stored in the EEPROM, which is not saved/uploaded with the software.? Also, each board set is different, so you need to recalibrate anytime you change the Nano for a given board. I would start with the BFO calibration to verify that it is correct.? I have used the following webpage with Chrome and a USB (or laptop) mic: You want to adjust more towards the "high" side, as that reduces any carrier bleed through.? Note that the BFO should be close to 11.055500 MHz, as the SSB filter is 11.059 MHz.? For my board 11.055600 MHz was about right. There is also the Memory Manager software from KD8CEC that I have found useful in being able to save the current settings prior to making changes, then to save again as I get closer to what I want. 73 Evan AC9TU |
