Re: UBITx V4 Low audio output 80-40-20 #audiocircuit

The string of diodes out of my junkbox was an expedient, but effective fix. Typical very strong signals might generate up to 2v at the R5/C6 junction, but the infamous "pop" that plagued the V3, and was muted in the final audio stage in the V4, is still present at this point and could peak over 5v. That charged up C6 such that it would be several seconds before it recovered and audio could again be heard after releasing the PTT, especially with weaker signals. The string limited the maximum to under 3v, so the recovery is unnoticed while preserving a more pleasing AGC hang time with the larger value C6. All of the changes were based on just experimentation and a few measurements.

Interesting using the stack of diodes to bias Q2.

Re: UBITx V4 Low audio output 80-40-20 #audiocircuit

Here are the modifications I made on the K1BQT circuit for use in my V4 uBitX. I now hav plenty of volume on higher frequencies and excellent AGC action. This made it a whole new rig!

Re: Nextion 4.3" Firmware?

Thanks for the info on the HMI files Ted. I wondered . . . now explained! LOL I'll have a play!

My 4.3" Nextion has not yet arrived. Should have been here Friday or Saturday latest (18th) but it's a wonder that the postal system is working as well as it is atm.

I'm "Scratch" Buiding! My Control Board (Raduino) using the same pin-outs from an Arduino Nano. Just having trouble ascertaining which actual Arduino digital pins are used for the Rotary Encoder Up & Down and the push switch. Hopefully will sort it out and wired my unit by the time the Nextion LCD arrives.

Thaks again for your help.

Re: ubitx v6 board only

Most (though not all) laptop 3.5 mm jacks are TRRS with the Tip and ring closest to the time being L and R audio out, the ring closest to the Sleeve is Ground, and the Sleeve is the Mic input.? I always thought this strange, though it does ensure that a the mic input tends to be shorted when a standard TRS is inserted.

Re: Off topic question

I agree, I have a solar panel and can charge a LiPo I think the last poster is right.

Re: ubitx v6 board only

I know, the problem is with my Windows 10 laptop's mike input.? It combines earphone and mike and though I have a splitter, the mike is iffy.? Will try a workaround when I get back to it.

Re: Off topic question

Okay folk outside US and Canada please forgive our discussion,? except that some of you have different Field Day (outdoor portable operating) events.

Go ahead and read the rules, and note the various classes. All but class D must be off grid. Various classes use battery or generator with temporary antennas. For class E one may use home antennas with battery or generator.

I am recalling only a solar bonus for up to maybe 10 contacts. Yes one would presume the battery they mention must be charged off grid. Many residential solar systems are integrated into the grid.

While usually operating with my club, I may be operating 1E battery this year, at maybe just 5 watts using a k2 or other battery friendly rigs.

Does anyone in the group have a Version 6 (preferably w/o cabinet) they? would like to sell? I see no shipments from India cannot ship until the lockdown is over.

Tnx,

"Technically" the battery has to be charged off an alternative power source, not commercial power mains, to qualify under ARRL rules, but I'm not sure how many people follow that rule and just assume battery power alone is enough.

Personally, I'd lean towards battery-backed solar power from your own panel, since you have everything you'd need, and it is closest to the spirit or intention of Field Day.

Is the power you are operating off of 100% solar generated when you are operating? If it is, then as I read the rules, yes.

Re: 2 meter mobile rig

Im ok, a vhf radio is nothing. I have an antenna that I hope is cut to 144 MHz.

I really don¡¯t need 80 watts but what can I do hi hi.

Chris?

Re: 2 meter mobile rig

Chris

Enjoy your 2m rig. Perhaps change it to medium power setting, then it may last much longer.

An antenna tuner is useful, especially when its close to antenna feedpoint or SWR is not too high across the coax. Many low cost kits available on different continents for qrp levels or homebrew your own. In US checkout qrpguys or 4stateqrp, or similar merchants elsewhere in the world.

Richard West

Thank you, Curt for the insight. I have an internal 8 ohm speaker to a mono plug in rear of the case that automatically grounds for the external speaker use, and the stereo headphone jack in the front that grounds out the internal and external speakers when used. They all work well with a loud enough signal. I was gifted an AGC/amp circuit board by its designer, Rick, K1BQT used in his V3. His article was published in QST, July 2019. Working this angle, and requested some other technical information from him. One item was the V4 does not use the TDA2822 audio IC when board was updated from V3, and the if the removal of R253 for side tone signal was necessary or not.

Re: ubitx v6 board only

Russ,
As long as you have a mic or a mic input to your PC you can use a free audio spectrum analyzer software to do the same as the video from Ashhar Farhan.? You just need to position the "plateau" between 500 and 3000 HZs

Here is one that I used before the web page came available.:

Re: Nextion 4.3" Firmware?

Oh, and I forgot to add (in case you weren't aware) that the HMI files are the original, editable program files that someone, somewhere, constructed for us all.? The editing program is freely available, .?? It's an education at least to open up and examine how that all works, as there's no requirement to save the worst that one could possibly do to it; ?

I'm sure you'll be fine.? Others' experience may vary, though, I've not seen a performance difference between the enhanced and the standard; it's just not that sort of project that depends upon the screen's own horsepower to get the job done.? Best of luck in the build!
