Re: uBitX v6 arrived today - information I found while waiting.
Steve & Judy Levine
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýArv, To answer your questions: yes I have been reading the responses and I still have not gotten responses to most of my questions the easy ones are answered the more pointed ones are not for instants what are the extra eight wires for they are not shown on the HF signal site for version six. The illustration showed no additional wires I have either them coming out of the display unit my question therefore is what the heck do I do with them since none of the websites have that information. Next, I would like to know is my situation unique, that is no instructions of any kind no diagrams no build sheet, nothing included? The plugs I can figure out it¡¯s The eight random wires plugged into the TFT board that I can¡¯t figure out, and that no one has answered regarding my inquiry.? Further, I have asked questions specifically about issues that other people seem to be having with this unit, and have those issues carried forth into version six or have they been fixed either buy those of you who have nothing better to do than to play with the box rather than actually operate it Steve On Mar 16, 2020, at 16:34, Arv Evans <arvid.evans@...> wrote:

Re: uBitX v6 arrived today - information I found while waiting.
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýRichard,Thanks for responding. Oh yes I may have mentioned it already, the three wires terminated with the three female receptacle I easily figured out where power the speaker cable was equally easy to Figure out I don¡¯t know what the other two female receptacle cables go to but I figure it¡¯s either plug one or plug to one of being bored hopefully neither one will create a smoke signal. The ones I¡¯m concerned about and the ones that nobody mentions so far are the eight multi colored wires mounted on the TFT board. So thanks for the information that you¡¯ve passed on I know I hope it¡¯s somebody will tell me what I¡¯m supposed to do with the other eight wires. 73¡¯²õ Steve On Mar 16, 2020, at 16:36, Richard <disharp@...> wrote:

Re: Gordon Gibby Digital Interface
the electrolytic is there to avoid SHORTING OUT a dc bias that many microphones require, and thus are provided by the transceiver.? ?If you?don't have that, and you short out the DC bias....likely you will foul up the biasing of the microphone input of the transceiver and cause a lot of distorted transmission.? Discovered that the hard way....... The electrolytic is present in the schematic for the Version 2.2 manual.? ?See page 7 here:? ? If you don't have enough signal, check the wiring and adjust the potentiometer.? ?The ubitx requires quite a bit of mic input signal; you can always decrease the value of the fixed dropping resistor in the transmit system which feeds the trimmer.? ?Some transceivers also need much higher input signal for the "line level" inputs.? See note 11 on page 24.? ?You can choose the value?of that resistor to match the needs of your transceiver.? ? 73, gordon On Mon, Mar 16, 2020 at 9:49 PM Mike WA0YCN <mgassman@...> wrote:

?I guess he means the walkway is not long enough for a 160 meter antenna. ?Although I have a fairly large plot of land, I had to bend one end of the 160 part of my dipole. And, using what is either #14 or #16 stranded wire, you could barely see it against the sky, as another mentioned. I also bent the other end slightly, only because I don't have a pole near one corner of my lots. ?But, he evidently no longer wants advice. ?I need to redo a lot of my dipoles. ?2 parts are down and one part is partly down. Need to use some good nylon, I think, cord I have, to support the ends.? ?I may use some rope I have that is similar to what I use to be able to raise and lower the W2AU balun at the center of my dipole. Might be a good time to move the tripod and mast I am using anyway, so I can center it more on my place, and add a section of mast to get it about 7 or 8 feet higher. At least that was my plan. ?Wayne WA2YNE On Mon, Mar 16, 2020, 2:39 PM Mark - N7EKU <n7eku@...> wrote: The walkway isn't long enough for what? |

glad to have you in the world-wide ham radio and ubitx community.? folk who help you here will be from everywhere!? several hams from India and world-wide have rescued me on my v4.? please appreciate the folk from hfsignals sharing this experience with us (even when it isn't working!? yes remind me on my next adventure inside the box).? McRuss the connector to place on the box is your choice.? a bnc was supplied since its a traditional connector for many QRP rigs. If you did stay with the BNC, get a cable with that style connector on one end and put a PL259 on the other end - to reach your tuner/swr meter/ antenna switch etc.? ask yourself questions and often you can figure it out.? often in the Spring here in USA we have these things called hamfests -except much of the world is being afflicted by that thing in the news ... often supplies can be had there - or ask folk in your local club that might have what you need from their stash. ? enjoy your build and radiations.? 73 curt wb8yyy |

Bill I love that you¡¯re making this so simple but I only have one question for you, (OK maybe more than one) what do I do with the eight colorful wires hanging off the back of the TFT?From a different Bill... Unplug that one and put it back in the box, as it is not needed. There is no soldering required when you buy the full kit! ;) 73 de N4GIX - Bill |

Christopher,
I can't figure out what that wire is that you have your antenna tied to?? I've never seen exposed wiring like that allowed on buildings.? Is it cable TV coax or optic fiber or something like that? Just wondering as if it's cable TV and you start transmitting with your antenna tied up to it would be a problem for other peoples' cable signal.? If its fiber optic, that would be good as then you wouldn't have to worry about it. 73, Mark |
Re: microbitx build info
You are looking for something like this: It's a BNC male to SO-239/UHF female adapter.? I usually pick up an assortment of adapters at the local swaps, but since they are all currently canceled, you may have to order one from someplace online.? It would be best to get one that is silver-plate and gold center pin/socket, and Teflon insulation. You might like to get a small kit of assorted adapters.? They'll come in handy for other projects.? They usually have N, F, UHF, BNC, and SMA connectors, male and female in various combinations. Hope that helps, and welcome to the hobby! -- 73, Dave, N8SBE

uBitx V6 transmit issues

Ok.? So received my uBitx V6 a couple weeks ago.? Assembled it, aligned it, and applied 13.8v power.? Spun the dial a bit and listened to ssb on 40m.? So today I'm ready to test it out on ssb phone and press the ptt button... the screen shows that the ptt is being pressed by showing tx.? But I'm not getting any output according to my in-line watt meter.? I turned on my other transceiver and tuned to same frequency and nothing on ssb phone.? I put the uBitx in cw mode, pressed the ptt, and could hear it on my other radio.? But again no power out readable on my watt meter.? Also, not sure if this means anything or not but the little LED on the included baofeng microphone is not lighting.? ?Thanks in advance for any useful ideas.

I too am a FNG and I've ordered just the kit without the box....but I'm familiar with the link and looking forward to hacking holes in a box of my choice.? One question though:? what connector are folks using to go from the BNC on the board to a PL 259 coax connector?? I have a cable-type adapter that I think will work but it is currently dedicated to a VHF rig.

Tomorrow the books for N licence...so time enough. The fact that the arduino print with the screen is not like it has te be, can't be solved from India....i think.? but thanks for tips and reviews.

Re: uBitX v6 arrived today - information I found while waiting.
The extra wires with plugs so you can, if you wish to access specific points on the main bd.? You do need them now. Aside from that, the plug from the rotary encoder plugs into the display, not the main bd. Also, the speaker connection is the one in the front corner. A few screws and you are there. ??

Hi, Steve Levine here, KC1ASO. I posted a couple of days ago and whether my newbie post scared people off, or what, there¡¯ve been no responses.?
One bundled group of three (power) had a female pin connector and, like a labeled pair that obviously was going to the speaker pins, were easy to figure out, however . . .? Consequently the TFT board has eight colorful wires hanging off the back of an eight pin connector these are untinned with no connectors on them. They are unlabeled and quite frankly I have no idea what to do with them. Going forward, I¡¯ve been reading a lot of the issues that other forum members are having with this radio. It seems that many of them are still using or referring to versions 3, 4, or V5 components. Are these same issues still prevalent in V6? ? |
