Found the "Tune" button but will not adjust to 10000 exactly as required only hits 10500 then 9000 + below or 11000 above. unable to attain suggested freq is there another adjustment somewhere?

For anyone else just new to this rig note if you connect it to a powered USB port you cant reset using power down as the powered USB port holds it on.

2. I can change to modes LSB/USB/CW when on either VFO but when I plug in a TS jack for a hand key but no key attached, essentially an open circuit it generates a slow tone burst and TX mode active and outputs 10 W RF power to the dummy load on 10 MHz. If I short the key leads the bursts increase in frequency and it remains in TX mode transmitting pulsed RF. I had thought if I plugged key in nothing nothing would occur until the key was pressed they I would expect to hear a sidetone and see TX modes indicator active and RF on the wattmeter.

3.I am seeing the posts here about set up menu mode activation by holding a tune button down I suspect when turning power switch on but mine does not have such a button at least not visible on the external case; di I need to open it up to access said button?

4. I have the USB connection connected and am using Linux UbuntuStudio 18.04LTS? as an PC OS is there a specific linux terminal app or comm program I need to compile to be able to comm with the rig? If not a linux one can I run whatever might be available under winetricks?

success.
I found my problem.
the four screws holding the tft display short out with the standoffs.
I will switch to nylon standoffs instead.
and yes there is no need for any jumpers. they are extra
the calibration, the 10 mhz clock seems way off and the freq and seems off.
and of course no mention to how to calibrate.
very poor instructions
????well on the plus side, I am blind and got this far.
comments always welcome

someone please help me as I am blind and can not follow pictures of v6 silkscreen jumpers

Niel,

From the schematic, the headphone jack is wired for stereo headphones.? Using a mono plug will short out the audio, so make sure you are using stereo headphones or a mono to stereo plug adapter.

Did you get the speaker wired up and plugged in OK?

Re: ubitx #v6 Screen Speed Mod #v6

Same with me.
After updating, all ok, then I restarted with Tune button pressed, Got no Audio and no BFO readings,,,
Re-loaded original firmware and I believe it is working fine again.
I did like the new screen layout!

Please stay on it.

Re: Got it built, but need some audio tweaking.

Please check out this message, as well as search the site for other calibration information.
/g/BITX20/message/74193?p=,,,20,0,0,0::Created,,v5+bfo,20,2,0,69331706

You will need a dummy load if you want to adjust the master clock (frequency calibration) using the stock software.? Transmitting on 10.000 MHz is not legal, and the stock v5 software does go into transmit mode on that frequency.? v5 stock firmware is the only version that I know of that uses this technique. I believe that v6 went back to using an AM signal and zero beating on receive as the prior versions did as well.

I have found the audio spectrum analyzer the best way to adjust the BFO.? HF Signals now provides a web page to help with that.? See the link in the prior message above.

Hi,

Adding up the total files, photos and attachments shows that about 3.36 GB had been used up.? If the rest is used up, members could chip in yearly for more space, or a google drive could be set up.? But maybe the space will last a bit longer still?

As I mentioned before, just reducing the jpeg quality setting can save a ton of space.? You can set it down to 25% quality and it still looks fine; and that setting will reduce the file size (and not the picture size at all) by 10x or more.

Mark.

Re: Got it built, but need some audio tweaking.

Oh dear, are there instructions for that? I was under the impression that it was indeed ready to operate. Thanks!

Now for a BFO setting search...

Make sure you have set the bfo, a common failing of quite a few of us.
It does NOT come factory set.

Re: Flrig and uBitX not connecting

Vic,

Glad you got it working.? My experience has been that it doesn't always connect the first time.? I think that's why I played around with the retries and retry interval. ??

Thank you.? I've read through the link you shared.? I don't see the information I need.?

Got it built, but need some audio tweaking.

I finally got the thing built, a V5, and with some trepidation, powered it up, fully expecting to see smoke coming out the cabinet. Oddly, I got sound out the speaker, albeit "tinny".? (I was a bit surprised that there was no backlight on the panel, but I do not see why there would be, but a flashlight fixed this.)

Though I could tune in on a signal, I could not zero in on a SSB signal, as it sounded like a toy. The speaker was a Nagoya I got for my mobile FT-7100M, which worked fine for that, but not for this. I think it is 8 ohm, possible 4 ohms.
I went and dug up my MFJ headset, and put it on, and the sound was a little better - was able to copy WWV code bulletin on 40. (Well, I was able to hear it - copying 18 WPM is quite another matter.) I did discover that the passband is likely for SSB, as I was hearing several stations at once, sort of like one of my old Swan rigs with no CW filter. (As a Novice, I got good at using my brain as a filter, as I did not have a rig with a CW filter until around 2014.)

Is there an impedance I should be looking for in speakers? The Nagoya is 8 ohm, as are most external speakers, or do I need an amplified speaker, or a certain type of headphone?

Please understand, I did not expect earthshaking results from an absolutely rock bottom affordable kit, and know I will have to "tweak" a bit before it works right.

Thanks everyone! 73 es gud dx!

Re: ubitx #v6 Screen Speed Mod #v6

Reed,

Well I felt adventurous for a moment but not anymore. It completely broke the the radio, I had to load your original code back on. It was off in la la land, i couldn't tune any frequencies and the BFO was way off. When I tried to calibrate everything locked up with 0's in the frequency display. I'm back now and making QSO's again.

That's not necessary, as they can simply be zipped and saved in the files section, like I already did, so we can keep all the information in one place.

Re: UBITX6 arrived today - cracked display

I hate autocorrect. ?Should have been "bought the full kit" and "If you have the basic kit" instead of what my email program wanted me to say - LOL!.

To reiterate though, as long as it has that 14 pin single row connector, and it's an ILI9341 display, it will work just fine (assuming J1/JP1 is shorted).

Paul,?
You can. ?Make sure it's a 2.8" display or it won't fit the mounting holes or the window area if you bout the full kit. ?If you have the basic key and are building your own case, you can even use a 3.2" ILI9341 display with the same 14 pin connector that the factory uBITX supplies BUT, I repeate BUT, the mounting holes won't line up so it wouldn't fit a factory case. ?That 3.2" ILI9341 display has exactly the same number of pixels and uses the exact controller as the 2.8" display so absolutely NO software change is necessary to use the larger one.

When you get the replacement display, check the back. ?There is a solder blob jumper called J1 or JP1 that is left open on some of those displays. ?In order to work with the V6 uBITX Raduino, this jumper must be soldered across. ?That puts the display's 3.3V regulator in circuit. ?The display doesn't like to work on the V6 Raduino if you don't have this jumper shorted.

All this information is from actual experience here with a V6 Raduino AND the two displays. ?

Can I replace it with any?ILI9341?320x240 display from ebay etc?

Re: New uBITX Ver. 6 Assembled Today

If you start the rig normally, you can hold the button for around 7 seconds (feels like forever) and it will show you the settings options menu. I think a settings menu button would be a good addition to the UI so people can more easily discover it.

You can try it out and chances are good that it will work until you get a replacement. As to replacement, just make sure it has the same pin configuration and it should work.
