Troubleshooting uBitx - newbie
#ubitx-help
Greetings - First,I new to both the uBitx and new to building radios.? I've wired up the uBitx with an amateuradiokits.in case.? I have power, but I think I may have done something incorrect with the audio and encoder.
1) Audio - when I turn up the volume, there is a tone that increases in pitch, then goes to static about half way from low to high. 2) When I turn the encoder it starts with LSB 7.150, the relay click sound happens and it? says CW - nothing else happens if I push in the encoder stem.? No frequency change or other options. On the encoder I had black, red, brown, and orange wire.? I assume that orange is yellow in other online photos and is wired accordingly.? I'm looking for some guidance. |

? As I said, they originally had a 3 el vertical array on MW but one of the masts had collapsed when one of the parafil guys melted due to the high intensity field and collapsed during a storm . Enjoy Regards Lawrence ? On Sat, Nov 16, 2019 at 4:25 PM iz oos <and2oosiz2@...> wrote:

Re: Band pass filter
Agree with you. 2mH is too large and it must have been simply for static discharge. Many moons?ago when I used to service?TVs I always?put a 4 turn air spaced coil across the tuner antenna input. I used to use a 3 mm twist drill to wind the coil. The coil would offer enough impedance not to have any effect on TV VHF / UHF signals but would be like a dead short to HF and lower frequencies. Re our friend's problem, a LPF should solve the problem possibly with the addition of a trap in series between the antenna and receiver input.?? Perhaps as some comfort for our friend re having a broadcast TX causing problems, years ago we had the Deutsche Welle relay station? about 2 miles away and they were running some 600 KW on MW to a 3 element vertical array beaming to North Africa / Middle East and three 250 KW on SW to two side by side curtain arrays that could be steered by phasing lines to?+ / - 30 degrees (if I remember correctly) with 4 phased wide-band dipoles on each curtain and on both sides of the curtains. They also had a 20 KW SW transmitter feeding a 5 MHz - 25 MHz rotatable HF log periodic array with a 40 metre boom on another tower. A 33 KV supply cable was laid directly from the power station to the radio station. When it was switched on it would blast in on any untreated equipment, hi fi etc? Touching any antenna including TV antennas down-lead without grasping it quickly would make a small burn on your fingers and you would see sparks jumping from the feeder to your fingers.? Cables etc on cranes at the Free-port across the harbour used to act as diode detectors and people could hear the programme being transmitted. When I was working as a radio operator on board an oil rig just outside the Sues Canal it would come in like a local station not to mention when we were in the Adriatic. No wonder being located on the coast and with all that power and antennas. Regards Lawrence On Sat, Nov 16, 2019 at 4:25 PM iz oos <and2oosiz2@...> wrote:

Re: Squeel and intermittent loss of audio v5
I have a similar case on a v4. The bottom front board mounts too close to the bottom and with flex can touch the bottom of the case. I tried adding kapton tape and trimmed the solder points pretty flat. It worked for a while then started back up. It is pretty much a design fault. The parts move more than you would expect. Just needs another 1/4" of clearance. My solution was put a thin layer of plastic under the board. Something like the side of a plastic container.?
When I built the next radio I used a larger case and moved the jacks to the side away from the case floor. I have had this radio for almost a year.? I purchased the radio with the intermittent shorting used? It was not working because of a bad audio connector and some other issues. Mainly the shorting only occurs when handing the cords. I had not read much about the problem and figured my issue was fairly isolated.? Dave k0mbt |

Re: Prewired 16x2 blue display
Mike Short
I have bought two of those displays from them, and neither worked. The larger displays I have (5 from different sources) do not use the same pin out as the regular ones. The last two pins are reversed, and if you power on wired wrong it will destroy the display.? Mike AI4NS? 5.1 SOFTWARE MANUAL
To All,
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the current 5.1 ubitx software manual? Does it exist? What about the KD8CEC ver 1.2? software/firmware manual? The only one I can find is KD8CEC's ver. 1.071. I have just finished building my ubitx 5 with the Inkits case and would like more info. Thanks, 73's Paul KD9JYV |

Hamp,
I don't know if you ever got your reply from Al but I just made his adapter for my uBitx 5 and it works great. I made it just like the picture and schematic. Hope this helps, 73's Paul KD9JYV |
