C'mon, your mic, key, and antenna are on the outside of the tin! I may try winding the transformers on toroids rather than binocular balun cores -- that'll save me a lot of room if I can get something close to the same impedance. (Hint -- put one winding at the specified number of turns on the balun core and measure its inductance, then match that inductance on the toroid with one winding. Then go bifilar or trifilar. This works about half the time in lo-power networks.) And those faucet washers? More toroids, because I have a deep junkbox thanks to junk computers and telecom gear. Dead-bug and Manhattan-style construction, with pieces of tin snipped from other Altoids cans, should make this fit. But it might get be drummed out of the local QRP group, because an Altoid BITX is still phone. Jim N6OTQ

You might want to be thinking about 4 to 6 of the larger Altoids tins. However, this is not a bad idea because that way each section could be adequately sheilded.
Altoids tin housed equipment usually means simple DC receivers and CW only transmitters. The BITX is much more than that. It is a full superheterodyne SSB design with ladder crystal filter, and a fairly hefty RF PA. It can be made quite compact by building it in modules, but I'm afraid it will still take several Altoids tins to house it.
That doesn't mean that you cannot try though. Good luck, and please let the group know your results.

Re: various squeak flutes that about it do not hear +- 4mhz +-4.2 mhz +-4.3…
HI! Arjan,
?
I am very happy to have had a look at your wonderful site. It is a nice feeling to see a borad being made by some one else.
?
However I noticed that the complete board shows that is is not ver3 but Ver2 with only a balanced mixer. The second coil is lacking in mixer stage. I too experienced a bit higher level of spurii in balanced mixer config. The ver?3 with a?doubly balanced mixer is nevertheless a better performer. Since you have already come this far just add another balun/ binocular coil to mixer.
?
Let us know how it turns out.

very nice site, arjan. i see that you have updated the bitx20 page. why dont you add your site to google dirctory? it is no searchable as of now.
do you have a schematic for the 2meter transceiver? i can only follow broken swedish. i could, though, follow most of the text on your site.

Hi!

Check VFO and BFO injection levels. It should be aroung 1.5V Pk to Pk. Also note that Q1 as per V3 layout is 2SC2570A or similar high Ft device having a different pin out. Rest all are BC547s.

Hi,
I just won on Ebay a large lot of 10.7 Mhz Crystals.? If anyone wants
to use this intermediate frequency I can provide a matched set of 4
plus a 5th for BFO.?? This IF would be useful primarly in ITU region
2, where WWB makes it impossible to use 10 Mhz as the IF.
I am willing to sell matched sets on the following terms:
1)? I will only sell to people in North or South America, exclusive of
Cuba and other countries that US citizens are forbidden to sell to.
2)? You will be getting 4 matched crystals, plus a fifth unmatched
crystal for BFO.
3)? Before you send money I will send you an invoice containing exact
measurements for each crystal, including the BFO crystal.?? This
invoice also contains the exact cost of postage to your destination
depending on available carrier.? You are responsible for your own
customs duties, import fees, and excise taxes.
4)? Each crystal in the package of 5 will be packed in its own bag
marked with its frequency measurement.
5)? SSB matching will be within 100 hz of average frequency for
matched set of 4 where each crystal is measured in series with a 33 pF
silver mica capacitor having 20% tolerance.
6)? CW matching will be withing 30 hz of average frequency for matched
set of 4 where each crystal is measured in series with a 33 pF silver
mica capacitor having 20% tolerance.
7)? Each crystal matched to SSB specifications would cost $2.00 USD,
so a set of 4 will cost you $8.00 USD.
8)? Each crystal matched to CW specifications would cost $5.00 USD, so
a set of 4 will cost you $20.00 USD.?
9)? Your unmatched BFO crystal comes at no extra cost.
10) Payment shall be made by PayPal, US postal money order, or
International Reply Coupons.? Personal checks not accepted.? No
exceptions.
I don't believe this is an unreasonable cost for my time and labor to
handmatch crystals, to spare somebody else the same effort of having
to buy a lot and sift through them with a test oscillator and
frequency counter.
If the majority of you disagree, please tell me and I will reconsider.?
Thanks,
The Eternal Squire

Re: BITX Control software final version
Just the sort
of?opinion?that?enhances amateur radio......
You must let everyone know what it
is like to be clever.
I'm surprised you actually
condescend to use a PC for communicating to the outside world.

In my opinion the finest?software for
controlling QRP or
any other radio equipment?costs nothing and
was developed thousands of years ago - its called the human
brain!
No wonder computer programs are called
"soft"ware,
most?render the users' brain
soft!
