Harmonics could be fixed by an external daughter board with relays and transmit low pass filters, duplicating what KT1,KT2,KT3 and L11 through L22 are supposed to be doing. Some forum members have created circuit boards that they sell as a kit to do this. Alternately, just replace the KT1, KT2, KT3 relays with Axicom relays, This is probably the preferred method for fixing harmonics if you can figure out how to remove the old relays. Harmonics are unwanted transmissions that occur at integer multiples of the desired frequency. Some might use the term "spurs" to refer to harmonics. Most people here use the term "spurs" to refer to any unwanted transmission that is not a harmonic. Spurs?are addressed in this thread of 60+ posts: ? ??/g/BITX20/message/61645 In that first post of the thread, Farhan writes: >? 4. With the relays that are now used for ubitx,? the harmonics at 3.5, 7 and 10 are in under -45 dbc. we don't need the axicom relays. From that, I assume that a uBitx shipped today from HFSignals has new relays, appropriate for RF switching. Unfortunately, no mention there of how to determine if your uBitx has old or new relays.? The relays on my first run v3 board of a year ago are of the "Virtual" brand, model VRS2H-S-DC12V-C. I'd guess that if the relays on your rig are some other brand, then you have the new relays. None of this is really nailed down yet well enough for somebody with a uBitx and DVM to be sure his rig is legal.? We need to know: 1)? Exactly which uBitx boards need the relays swapped out to Axicom? 2)? Exactly what parts should we procure for relay replacements and spur filters? 3)? Exactly how should those spur fix parts be installed on the board?? (With photos) Farhan recommended toroids for the spur filter inductors, Raj has found that shielded surface mount inductors work. Cheap standard issue surface mount inductors are apparently not sufficient. ? Rather absurd that this has not yet all been resolved to a recommended list of part numbers and step by step procedure for installing them. It's been months. Jerry, KE7ER ? |

I see you got your key answers.? I do suggest building and tested with the raduino, then mod this rig to your heart's content.? Much easier to confirm proper wiring with less hardware in the loop.? Likewise, check out with the stock firmware.? Do expect you will need some mods to correct spurious - the conservative approach seems to be a daughter board hosting an added set of relays, and some additions to the 45 MHz filter.? We have tested several recent samples in our group build - they all need help to be compliant and good citizens on the bands.? Nothing else seems to be 'essential.'? Glad this rig offering is serving a world-wide community.? Curt |
Re: God Speed on your flight Farhan
the exseedsat now appears trackable on amsat org. this bire has run into a bit of rough weather. due to the extra-ordinarily delayed launch, the batteries of our satellite are probably in a discharged state.? the beacon comes in but quickly resets, indicating that there isnt enough charge in the batteries. it will take a few daya before you can hear the full telemetry as the batteries recharge in the sunlight. Lets move the satellite discussions to amsat-bb. - f On Tue, 4 Dec 2018, 01:51 AndyH <ahecker@... wrote:

Re: uBitx Function Button ERROR
Thanks everyone for the assistance, I will try to put in practice the advices you all gave me. First of all I would like to try Dr. Ian's firmware, I just give it a try to see if the problem persists. It should be easy to do it because I have an another nano for spare. After that I will pay attention for grounding the case and the coax and eventually the nano. Still can be an issue because I do NOT use a balun for my 40m dipole. Lately I'm clutched in some other projects and I don't have that much time left for the uBitx but I will be back in business ASAP. Thanks again and I promise I'll keep you posted with my findings, in this way we can help other people so they don't have to reinvent the wheel every time they need one...?

Re: Ashhar Farhan

Just to clear it up, I don't read or even interact with HF Signals on a daily basis. I am only a sort of advisor to them. It is run autonomously by the collective with Ehan overseeing them.? Very few emails get escalated to me. I answer all the bitx related email here on this group. This way, it becomes a repo for those asking the questions. There are many here far more experienced than me in bitx, I too reach out to this group to learn and share. The last few fixes to ubitx were all discoverd and documented by the group members. I am more like an editor, not the author or bitx. It is a privilege to be so. - f On Tue, 4 Dec 2018, 20:11 Rick Price <rickprice48@... wrote:

looks like this when it's finished:
The SMD parts will be on the board. In the picture above, everything that's
black, blue, gold (i.e., the SMA's), or looks like an audio isolation
transformer is NOT supplied with JackAl. We could have added them to the
fabrication process, but since some parts (e.g., the audio amp chip) are not
standard for pick-and-place, it would have raised the cost considerably. Also,
we felt a lot of you would already have many of the parts in your junk box. The
off-board parts in the BOM are going to cost around $15 or so. If you know of
others who plan on building the JackAl system, you can probably save a little by
combining orders. Also, you can leave the IDC and SMA connectors off the board
and solder directly if you wish. However, this may be penny-wise-pound-foolish
if you wish to remove the JackAl board for some reason.
We hope to post the assembly manual on our web site (hamradiodesigns.com)
next week. The site has a short video that shows some of the JackAl
features.

The JackAl add-on is not an HF Signals product.? You will need to ask the JackAl developers (Jack W8TEE), but as I understand it, the raduino is replaced by the Jackal board. He posts here regularly.? He's also posted in the various threads about relay replacement (he reported that current production boards have relays that bring harmonics into compliance) and various spur fixes (he's come up with 2 or 3.? He's also stated that all fixes are rolled into the production cycle.

I look forward to a photo of your board when it arrives - I'd like to see which spur fix is applied. I'm really enjoying my very early V3 board - I'm definitely going to get at least one more, and I'm scratch building another one.? Too much fun!
