Ubitx will be here tomorrow. Any suggestions for a Bitx newbie
#ubitx
MD
I took the plung and ordered the Ubitx last Thursday. It will be delivered tomorrow.? Any suggestions for must have mods? I am a newbie to the bitx world but have had a little experience with the Arduino Uno and Nextian displays. I am stealing a 3.5 basic nextion from another arduino project (A digital display for a couple of boatanchor rigs I own, I switched out the TN1638 7 segment displays since the look more retro). I have downloaded the latest KD8CEC htm files and installed them on the nextion and it looks good. I have also ordered some Nano's to have around and plan on using 1 for the new KD8CEC AGC/spectral display expansion to his nextion firmware.?
Thanks in advance Marty -- N5KBP |

?B FT8 Success!
I made an audio cable that connected the laptop out to the mic in, without connecting the PTT.? Another regular AUX cable went from the laptop line in (it's actually got that as a separate jack, lol) to the headphone jack on the ?B.? Set up WSJT-X to emulate the FT-817 per??and it worked!? Made my first HF QSO with VA3HP.? Feelin' kinda hammy!

Google 'rar file mac'. Lots of options.

Re: ND6T AGC and Click kit wiring notes
A total of 888 AGC and/or Click mini-kits have now been ordered/shipped and I am out of AGC boards. Awaiting some parts from Mouser before I can ship the remaining ordered qtys.
I'm going to quit and pass the torch to someone else. Order rates have dropped off some, so maybe everyone who wanted a mini-kit has one ??? The AGC board and Click board Gerbers have been uploaded to the files section under my call. "On order" and "shipped" information is available in the "Files" section under my call. 73 Kees K5BCQ |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHave just completed mine to testing stage with just the mic and PTT connection to sort. At the moment are on a screened twin cable from a scrap computer hanging out of the mic socket hole. Have yet to run a thick cable from -ve input to chassis (after removing paint) and ensuring the main board is properly connected to the case. ? Connected a temporary dc input lead, the speaker on twisted wires again from a scrap PC. Connect a dummy load. ? Switch on.....no magic smoke,Arduino initialises and rig goes into receive. ? All good so far. Letting it sit on receive for a while. ? I am not sure I want the 4pin mic connection, I may well wire it up as a 8 pin using the kenwood rig pinout so I can use a range of microphones or just the electret as supplied. ? Observations: ? Try a blue display with white letters, suits my blue mBitx case very nicely. They are cheap and interchangeable 2 rows by 16 characters each row. Adjust the blue preset behind the display pcb for best overall readability,by default mine was set a bit high and needed reducing. The bicolour led Red for tx,Green for rx have two resistors to limit the current draw. I started with 1.6K but the led is a bit bright so will increase this value, trying 2.2K first and then finding the optimum value by experiment. ? Buying the uBITX case with its additional pcbs made wire up easy and I used Molex KK connectors and made everything plug in at both ends (except the volume control) ? Very Pleased so far, after leaving it working for a few hours I will then progress to connecting a mic and PTT. For reasons of safety I always run these rigs into a dummy load incise they unexpectedly go into transmit as some seem to do. ? So like Bo W4GHV I am well pleased. Mine is V3 2017 serial no. 5017 taken from the board. ? Thankyou to all at HF Signals. ? 73 Ian Reeve M0IDR ? Sent from for Windows 10 ? Wow. Perfectly satisfied with mine.
I did remove paint a couple places to insure the case was grounded. No biggie. A LOT of effort and material for a tiny price in my opinion. 73, Bo W4GHV since '54 |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý?Thanks for confirming that idea of how they work.? ?I have one sitting at home that I flat could NOT understand how it works, but the circuit is identical to what we're seeing here --- two coupled coils (it has two different sets with different number of
turns each, making 4 total cols, two transformers) and they are marked for differnt frdquency ranges, and a built in dummy load and a tuningcapacitor (or more, can't remember).? ?I picked it up at a hamfest unsure of what it was but intrigued.? ?
Obviously I didn't realize what it could do, and will try it with a HIGH impedance antenna some time soon and see what happens.......??
Will be a very cool demo to give at club meeting if it does work......

Re: End Fed antennas w/ uBITX

Gordon,
The coupled coils approach is so old school I'd suspect is had origins in the late 20s or 30s if not before with spark. It persists because it is easy to understand, build and?does indeed work.? It also offers selectivity as its a band pass filter.? That in? a high BC radio environment might be very helpful. They are of course local to the antenna as any form of transmission line tends to? make a simple life, complicated.? The upside is even at power they can be fairly compact. It can be done at the bottom of a half wave vertical.? As far as tuning remotely,?it could work to the limits of the variable cap?at a harmonic of the base antenna.? But do keep in mind a? full wave or longer 1.5 wave pattern is not the usual broadside sine-cosine pattern.? For a 1.5 wave vertical at 28 mhz the peak power is at something like 75 degrees, not very useful. For a half wave it will be quite low more like 21 degrees, very useful. The whole thing of compromise antennas is that for one this its that and for another its a solution. Which is which is the exercise of experience. Allison |
