Re: Dirt cheap uBitx case

That is a serial or parallel distribution switch.
It takes a serial port output (6 to 20 wires), or a parallel port (usually 20 wires) and transfers it to 4 different receiving ports. The most common use was to connect one computer to several different printers. They were quite common in computers before the advent of USB and (lately) wifi. Finding one nowadays at a decent price is a rarity. A few years back, they were very common and very cheap. They make excellent radio cases though one usually has to redo the front and back parts. I have several with double-sided pcb added as faceplates. In addition to the cases, one usually ends up with a 12P4T switch (which is fine for switching filter banks), and lots of #28 wire. john AD5YE. |
Re: Modifying Bitx40 BPF band pass filter
Quick update: I tried John's suggestion and changed R29 in 47 ohms. There were no voice stations but the CW stations became much more audible so it was a clear improvement. Still the audio level was very low. It seemed the 3rd amp behind the mixer was not amplifying enough. According to my cheap Chinese component tester C29 (coupling to the BPF) was unknown or defective. So I replace it with a new capacitor and presto: huge audio signal !!! It is past midnight over here so the band has gone quiet, so I will have to do some more fine tuning tomorrow. I intend to replace R29 with a 50 ohm trimpot so I can adjust the signal at the exact right level. Thank you all! Now I can focus on the BPF.? |
Re: TDA2822 Replacement
Howdy Raj, Well over half a century ago when I was 13, I wanted to build an oscillator to practice morse code.? One of the men at my church was an EE and also a ham (he also had a really cute daughter my age that I was kind of sweet on...).? I dropped by his house one evening and asked him if he could help me build an osculator (not a misspelling, rather a mispronunciation of oscillator).? He told me if I wanted to practice code, he would help me build an oscillator but if I had in mind some sort of practice with Janice (his daughter) I had better take up some other hobby quickly. Re: ubitx order
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIt went from shipping Monday to being Stateside today! WOW! DHL does not mess around! If this was UPS or USPS, it would still be in Europe! It will be next week or the week after before I get started on it. I may order another as I figure what features I want to add. Look forward to building something. Re: uBitX - Replacement microphone
Problem is the mikes have a 2.5 and 3.5mm jack. I ordered some 2.5mm females, but didn't pay attention and I received the SMD type. The barrel from that is even shorter than the 3.5mm ones that came with the kit.
Have been browsing but so far haven't found a solution yet. Unfortunate the Baofengs are not that cheap to harvest parts off it. ;) John |
Re: uBITX Manager
David It seems that there is a communication problem with uBITX that communication error occurred in both reading and writing. If you have another computer, would you try it again there? The top setting is 38400, None, 8, One. Can you test one more? uBITX Firmware CEC Version is compatible with most software.? If you have a CAT control program that you are using, please Communication test with it You can also use programs such as Ham Radio Deluxe, FLDIGI, Wsjt-x, and JT-65HF. Please refer to the blog below for CAT program setting. Ian KD8CEC 2018-03-08 0:32 GMT+09:00 <davidaker@...>: Thanks for the reply.? I'm using 1.04 and indeed the error occurs when reading. |

File name is ubitx_20.ino ? and You can manually choose the wrong sideband (ie, choose USB for digital modes on 40m). But it will jump to the "correct" sideband whenever you tune through 10mhz. Bands below 10mhz are traditionally LSB.? Bands above are USB. At line 420 inside Farhan's original ubitx_20.iso we have this scrap of code: ? ? if (prev_freq < 10000000l && frequency > 10000000l)
? ? ? isUSB = true;
? ? if (prev_freq > 10000000l && frequency < 10000000l)
? ? ? isUSB = false;
So anytime you tune across 10mhz, the second local oscillator clk1 will flip to the other side of the 45mhz 1'st IF. As it should. No idea what that hex file is. If you have suspicions, I suggest you compile from source using what's in Farhan's github account for the uBitx: ? ??https://github.com/afarhan/ubitx And I am still obstinately not following any links to videos. Dirt cheap uBitx case
#ubitx
I wish I could remember which post covered using switch boxes for cases but this one was perfect and only $4 from an electronic surplus store. My radio literally just arrived this afternoon so I quickly ran out to find a "case." I will add a plate on the back to cover the former cutouts for centronics connectors. The original center switch hole is where the display naturally sits when plugged directly into the board. I will end up popping the front plate onto the mill to get a clean and square hole. This case is steel so I might end up going for something down the road that's lighter. For the price along with a massive selector switch, wire, and a decent set of knurled machine screws, I cannot complain. I bought a larger case for $6 when I need to start looking at upgrades.?
