The issue with small speakers for communications use is that you want something quite different from HiFi speakers in several aspects.
While I use headphones exclusively for operating, I do like to ¡°read the mail¡± (listen) while working in the shop.?
The key is proper frequency response, good absorption of sound off the back of the diaphragm to limit distortion caused be the reflections hitting the diaphragm, and proper strength magnet to control the voice coil movement.
For our communications headphones we build a metal frame, Mylar cone driver with Neodymium magnet that provides high sensitivity but huge dynamic range, 200-6000Hz response to cut off noise that is of no value and quite fatiguing to listen to and the Mylar cone (diaphragm) is not disturbed by moisture and temperature changes to give excellent control over the voice coil positioning.
I could make available to the community a kit with a 50mm, 32 Ohm driver, foam dampening and mounting hardware (3mm standoff¡¯s, Screws, lock washers and nuts) 2 mounting points, if enough people are interested. I can make one and show how it could be installed.
?Output can be attenuated even as these are easy to drive and the uBITX has tons of output.

Think you have to take into the baffle effect of the panel that its mounted behind, mine sounds good, saying that I did plug it into my Yaesu SP-8, decided that the 3inch speaker was far better.

Make sure the brand is mega watt and not the cheap Chinese knockoff. The cheap ones don¡¯t have proper RF filtering and they use cheap fans.?
The fan on my mega watt 26amp was noticeable too and I complained. They sent me a fan that was quieter, less cfm¡¯s but it did the trick. And I¡¯ve been using it with a 100W radio doing digital modes and it hardly works up a sweat.?

Arduino expertise can easily be had by purchasing a cheap Ebay sourced Arduino NANO and
doing some of your own software for that device.? It is easy to use the "examples" code as basis
for your own digital voltmeters, period counters, frequency counters, audio generators, and
so on.?

I have a suggestion, note I dont have a uBITX yet, I have one ordered so I cannot test this.
?If you disconnect the PA power at the DC input socket the transmitter wont produce RF.
The path from the antenna to the PA output transformer is DC when the PTT is activated, note the PA transformer end it at earth.
Use a multimeter set to ohms and measure the resistance between ground on the radio board and the antenna output while activating the PTT, it should be very low.
You also need to check the bands that activate the other LOW pass filters.
Hopefully this can help steer the thinking in others.

I'm running Win 7 most of the time and I have this happen, too. Sometimes, unplugging/plugging the USB connectors fixes it. Other times, I have to close the Arduino IDE completely, and reload it. Sometimes I unload the IDE and also unplug the USB connector. Usually, I get an audible sound from the computer when the system finds the port. Other times when it doesn't see it, I get a rapid beep-beep-beep tone telling me it doesn't see it, but knows the connector is connected. If that happens, I go to the Drivers directory of the IDE and run the installer. If it still doesn't work, I do a total reboot of the system. If none of these work, I take a nap.

I have tried a bunch of smaller 8 ohm speakers and some are a bit nicer than others but so far have no conclusion as to which direction is best. There is a lot of high pitched sound that I do not need, above 3 kilo hertz, that comes out of my bitx40v3, I have attenuated it some but don¡¯t know where it¡¯s coming from, and I would like to get rid of it at the source.

There is a company MegaWatt in Santa Clarita California that markets a very similar looking line of power supplies, but they are heavily filtered and regulated. They are twice the price as what you link, but I can personally attest to their quality. There are many knock-off clones marketed from China that are junk from a radio use standpoint.

Some speakers require a specific damping factor to sound the best. A small speaker in a small case, e.g. a microphone, has a high damping factor, it keeps the speaker cone travel from moving too far. Your fingers may be doing the same thing. Volume depends on the amount of air the speaker moves. I bought something that looks pretty much exactly the same.? Be advised, as soon as you put any load on it, the fan will come on.? I just moments ago put a load on mine (a CB radio under TX), and the fan noise increased substantially.? I used the CB to test it as I recall previously using the PS and having it go to 16-18V under load (hence the CB- didn't want to risk my good stuff....).? This time it stayed at 12.8 or so.? YMMV.? As you can imagine, the sound quality from this speaker on the BTX40 is not very good.? However, when I encircle the speaker with my thumb and forefinger, the volume and clarity improve dramatically.? I would like to bless it with my ?approval, but I won¡¯t do this without having tested it for hidden demons that might arise in a contact bouncing environment. Resistor values are not critical and only serve as base current limiters. This should solve the self interference problem in all single channel systems of similar design, and is an absolute requirement to achieve Full QSK performance.
