Re: Floor noise?
philip yates
I also found out that the drive setting if too high increases the noise from the speaker. My 2x Raduino's are set at 2mA drive, now and the RX is nice and clear. maybe nothing? But as I can barely hear the RSGB news broadcast from DL land on my FT1000 and inverted L, It now sounds the same on my Bitx40. Phil- G7BZD? Must get some vero strip board as well.? Have placed the Bitx40 into its case to get an idea of room available, and theres going to be enough for the add ons, Already built the oyther AGC circuit, just fancied building the LDR/LED one to compare. It was VK3YE's blogpost. If 40k isn't low enough, sticking the LED where the sun don't shine ain't gonna get it any lower.

Floor noise?
richard kappler
Perhaps not a bitx question so much as a n00b ham question, but this is home so here I'll ask. I finally have my bitx working-ish. I can rx (barely) and when I tx I get measurable output to the antenna. On rx, I can hear people talking, but it's very distorted. Additionally there is such a pronounced background noise that, even if the rx weren't so badly distorted I most likely wouldn't be able to hear it. I have no idea how to chase this rabbit down it's hole, can I get a hint? 73, Richard |
Re: doTuning() mod, utility, vanity
Speaking of memory issues, one might think it was time to move to a ARM Feather -- same small form factor, 32 bit CPU and lots Flash/RAM.? Works with the Arduino IDE (as do several other small form factor M0 devices). Of course Jack is part way there with the 8-bit AVR 2560 micro. ? Drawback of the M0 Feather is 3.3 volt logic.? But it has higher resolution A/D converters, and a real D/A converter (think sine wave vs. square wave sidetone).? Running I2C peripherals like the 5351 or a TFT display negates the issue with 3.3 volts. Anyway, Allard is working miracles with limited memory resources for sure. 73, Bob, WB4SON |
Re: 10 turn pot $1 to way too much
If the A/D converter is optimized for analog signals with an output impedance of 10k or less would we not be better off with a 10k or less pot rather than a 100k pot? This is a mod that an individual could add.??? It was intended as a way that the user could customize the radio.
If memory is a problem, then perhaps have multiple versions, for example,? I currently don't use USB, CW, or RIT.? I may want them in a future build but would rather have a stable sketch? without them, if memory is low.? So today I select a minimal version and later if I build a multiband rig I select a version with USB or other features. |
Re: Source of LDR required.
I bet those 40k-400k LDR could work too... too much resistance?, then put the led further away, cover it with something, paint it, place some thin film between the two, or even WAY better use a bigger resistor so the led doesn't shine as bright, what about placing a normal (smaller) resistor in parallel with the LDR?, etc. The point is to experiment, try new things, try to make it work with what you have, and of course learn a lot in the process! :) Dan73 On Sat, May 27, 2017 at 3:58 PM, Vince Vielhaber <vev@...> wrote: In trying to figure out what you guys were referring to I did some digging and the one thing I did find was a blog post saying that a 40k-400k LDR that he had on hand didn't work.? 10v
Hi all,
I ordered a LIPO battery from evilbay for a really good price, half expecting it to never arrive... But it did, I The page said about 3 amps at 12v, I plan to use this for SOTA but I was a little wary of the voltage, so I checked it and surely enough It only puts out 10v :( will this be enough for the little bitx? or does it need the rated 12? Cheers and 73! ZL4BEN |

Re: 10 turn pot $1 to way too much
I first had a cheap BOURNS pot, it worked OK but requires more "torque" to spin the shaft.
Then I switched to a wirewound VISHAY pot, it's more expensive but it's definitely worth the money! The VISHAY pot turns very lightly, you can spin the knob with just one finger just like the tuning knob of a commercial rig. With the cheap BOURNS pot I needed two fingers and more force to turn the knob. As the tuning knob is the most important control of any rig I wouldn't make comprises and go for the VISHAY. See datasheet attached. 73 Allard PE1NWL |
