Using BITX40 with 15v battery?
I added a small solar panel to my 12v 7ah battery. Under direct sunlight, my battery voltage reads 15v and steadily drops to 13.2-14v in the shade. My question, is it safe to use the radio under these voltages without a certain mod, ie, bigger heatsink, or am I good to go? |

Yes that was one great post Jerry, thanks!

You are not purchasing a radio.? You are purchasing a kit.? Big difference. At least as far as the regs are concerned. ? ? ?? On Tue, May 16, 2017 at 2:53 PM, W9ZIM <darrendude@...> wrote:

George -? Exactly the same - 600 km first contact to Toronto from Baltimore.? And I was heard in Miami area, too. I have two tuning controls in my BitX 40v3 - built before everyone was using Radino.? I replaced the Surface Mount caps that controled the tuning with NP0 caps, and replaced the toroid.? That stabilized the frequency drift that plagued the early models.? Then I have the standard 10K pot (on right) and a 500 ohm pot for bandspread tuning.? No need for a 10Turn pot. I just added the circuit to eliminate the pesky PTT Whamp.? Now the circuit is usable on the air. ? Funny how everyone's BitX is similar inside but looks very different on the outside. ?? ? On Tue, May 16, 2017 at 3:12 PM, <george.ellis@...> wrote:

What a thrill ... first contact on Bitx40
Wired up the mic today and decided to call CQ! First call ?- ?success!! 600 km contact on 7 Watts was fantastic! More surprising is the reaction of the other station when you let the Bitx40 cat out of the bag :) Here she is - I think I'm going to enjoy this a lot... |
Re: Just ordered the BITX40
I remember seeing that discussion, but when I ordered a bitx40 this past Saturday, I didn't include any callsign information since there was never a point in the ordering process where it was explicitly requested.? DHL tracking says the package was just delivered to my house, so I wouldn't worry about it. On a related note, 4-days from India to Ohio?? I'm impressed! |

Re: Radunio BFO and sketch 1.11
If confused as to why the BFO had to be lowered to transmit an LSB signal after flipping from a 5mhz to a 19mhz bfo, then check out post?/g/BITX20/message/24724? That post gives everything in round numbers so the discussion is easier to follow. ?On stock radios, the BFO is around 11998500 hz. ?The crystal filter passband is about 3000 hz wide, and centered on around 11997000 hz. ?These frequencies are a bit below 12.0mhz since the crystal filter uses the series resonant frequency of the crystals (which is slightly lower than the parallel resonant frequency), and the BFO has added capacitance around the crystal. ?? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThere are lots of people on the list of buyers that did not supply a Call. I don't think there is a problem?? There is no law that I know of in the US that says you have a Call to purchase a radio? They just can't transmit? Mike, WA6ISP On 5/16/2017 10:55 AM, Aaron Heverin

Just ordered the BITX40
Aaron Heverin
Just ordered my BITX40 yesterday afternoon and now I have what I hope isn't a stupid question. I seem to remember Ashhar addressing the group about a cross-check to ensure that the person ordering the radio was a licensed amateur. I placed my order directly off the HFSIGS.com website, but when I paid via PayPal, I never included my call sign in a comment. Should I have done that and do I still need to do it?? I know QRZ can cross-check via a name, but I'm thinking having the call sign would be the preferred way to confirm the recipient of the radio. Thanks for the input and best 73. Aaron - N2HTL |
Re: BITX QSO Night, Sunday, May 14, 9pm Local Time, 7.179 MHz
I tried at 8PM PDT, but heard no bitx40 calls, just a lot of QRM from other stations. I called CQ for awhile, with no response. I could see that my signal was making it to AZ (using websdr.com radio) but apparently, everyone was already in QSO, and no one was scanning for calls. I think I really need to get cracking on the audio interface so I can do PSK and JT65. |
