Any audio amp could be tried but it should be generally available in spares
market. Perhaps for a design, better to use dip8 or soic8.

For a volume control you usually want a log or audio taper pot. Since hearing is logarithmic, using a linear taper pot will put all the volume change compressed at one end of the pot. It is possible
