Sorry Jack - I thought I attached the code to my last message. ?I've uploaded it.

Re: BITX 40 (Pre-Raduino) Sanity Check Please

Go into the calibration mode and adjust it so it reads true .

Hi Cor,

? ?What appears to be a 1500 Hz shift is consistent across the range from 7,0 through 7,3. ?I've been using my SDR-Play as the 'test' receiver. ?It appears to be accurate relative to WWV on 5 and 10 MHz. ?I haven't been able to identify the actual pass band of either the crystal filter or the filter using L1/L2/L3 - my learning hasn't progressed that far yet. :)

?Hi Jack,

? My board's pre-radiuno days - received last December. ?The VFO's an Arduino Micro and an Adafruit Si5351 board. ?The code began life as AK2B's multi-featured VFO and I'm using the 'direct conversion' portion. ?The basic process is: BFO-VFO ?si5351.set_freq(1200000000 - (vfo * SI5351_FREQ_MULT), SI5351_CLK0); ?I think I attached the code. ?Most of the changes I made were for the differences between the Micro and Nano.

? I'm using 12,000,000 as the BFO freq. ?I found that when I calculate off the actual 11,9985 freq that my transmit signal is weak (3-4 W out with R136 adjusted for max input/output and yelling into the mic). ?On the SDR waterfall, the output signal looks like contains a portion of two side bands. ?The dial display is in sync, however. ?Using 12,000,000 gives me an intelligible output signal that looks like a 'proper' SSB envelope on the waterfall. ?With R136 at about 45% of full travel, slightly louder than normal conversation volume produces a solid 7W output with peaks approaching 10W. ?I had a 'proper' QSO with the radio in this configuration and the signal was clear enough. ?I just have to tune 1500 Hz higher on the display to get the expected frequency for transmit and receive.

?I'm beginning to wonder if one of the filters is off. ?I don't yet know how to measure the pass band. ?Would I have to break the input and output of the filter and then sweep the filter?

Cw is already in the bitx40 code, you need to uncomment it in the code.

Try it and let us know.

Andy,

I didn¡¯t read your subject line carefully, I assumed you had the Raduino which is not the case, I see now. My remarks about calibration were not very helpful then.

If you mean that the center of the RF pass band is on 7280 then you have exactly what is intended. If this is the frequency of the suppressed carrier you are 1.5 kHz off indeed.

This can be adjusted by the calibration feature that is in the basic Raduino firmware.

Search for ¡°calibration¡± in the group messages. It has been mentioned lots of times in connection with a discussion of the colour of the wire to be used.

Re: BITX 40 (Pre-Raduino) Sanity Check Please

Andy,

How are you measuring the center of the pass band? Have you been able to measure the center of the IF pass band? ?The BFO frequency will be above this pass band, since it is a LSB signal in the BITX40.

The IF crystal filter is at a nominal 12 MHz frequency, the exact value will differ.

Is the error you are seeing different when you tune to 7,2 MHz then to 7,0 MHz?

Did you compare your received signals and the perceived frequency with another receiver?

The Raduino has a calibration feature, with which you can zero the error between displayed and received frequency, this might solve your problem.

?

73, Cor ¨C PA4Q

Thank you Cor and I agree about tracking the suppressed carrier. ?I guess what I think I'm seeing and measuring is that the pass band is 3K lower than I'd like it to be.

I expect that if I tune to 7.2 (suppressed carrier location) that the center of the LSB pass band is 7198500. ?When I tune to 7.2, the center of the transmit band is closer to 7197000.

I'd like to be able to dial-in 7200000 and know that the receive and transmit pass band is 7198500...maybe plus/minus 50. ?I really don't know how much precision or accuracy I should expect at this point.

Measure the voltage drop across the 1k resistor while transmitting to determine current into the modulator, divide 9v by that current to determine the new resistor value.
