Re: Microphone query

Tom -
I'd appreciate details on how you adapted the plug of the HK008.
Thanks,

Ragav,

Fldigi will run for a bit. ?If you try to change frequency from fldigi it will many times hang and not recover. ?Sometimes it will crash the zbitx program sometimes it will take minutes to do anything. ?I experienced this issue on my original sbitx also. ?

I use a Retevis HK008 amplified microphone (with plug adaptation) with my (tr)uSDX which needed a microphone ?boost. ?Includes a built in rechargeable battery and an audio level control - works great!

Re: Zbitx Musings

Kevin,

The schematic can be found on the zBitx . The specific coil (T30-6) was not required and was omitted during assembly. Please note that the schematic hasn't been updated to reflect this change.

QSSTV on Zbitx

Has anyone had success using the QSSTV program? which is installed on the Zbitx?
?
I tried? many options available for the Sound
but none worked. I cannot see any action on the rx waterfall, even when I see it on another rig.

Re: Microphone query

?
It has a pretty detailed explanation of why it doesn't work as you perhaps might expect.

In particular, if you don't want to modify the mic or key you are trying to use there is an easy workaround:

Just connect the mono plug to the side of the Y cable that connects to tip and sleeve, off you go.? Ring will remain floating, or if you want, you can use the ring side of the Y cable to hook up a PTT switch.? ?I happened to have such a PTT switch handy for use with a different radio, it works fine.?

Thank you I will try connecting to external monitor

As others have pointed out, the zBitx comes with FLdigi preinstalled on the image. To access this, you need to connect your radio to an external HDMI display to run the program. FLdigi will not run on the built in display.

Ryan, I did not face any issue when running FLdigi on the zBitx. Let me perform a sustained test tomorrow and get back to you on this.

Re: Microphone query

Hello Martin,
?
The short answer is no; you need a stereo plug, or the ring contact in the jack will be shorted, and it will immediately go into transmit.? You do not need the PTT switch connected.? You do need the stereo (Tip, Ring, Sleeve - TRS) plug with the mic connected to the tip and the sleeve.

Microphone plug connection:
T (Tip) MIC
R (Ring) PTT
S (Sleeve) GND

Re: Microphone query

Martin,
You didn't say what device you plug the microphone into, I'm just guessing that it's currently a zbitx.
The zbitx microphone input is the same as the sbitx. My experience is that you can replace it with a more sensitive microphone insert (meaning electret), but it's not the best solution.
You'll need a little dexterity to install a microphone amplifier into the microphone housing.
It won't be easy, because the amplifier will need a power supply, which you'll either solve, or get a microphone with an amplifier that has a power source built into it.
Electret microphones need a power source to operate, which can vary depending on the type.
If it's a zbitx, you can download the schematic from github, where you can also download the upgrade.

Microphone query

Can I just plug a general microphone with a mono 3.5 plug (and no switch) into the mic socket and use the on screen transmit/receive buttons or does it have to be configured with a ppt switch.?

Re: Zbitx and fldigi help

Ok thank you. I couldn't find fldigi anywhere on the radio..but if it doesn't work I'll stop looking.

Re: Zbitx Musings

That schematic shows 2 coils T30-6 13t, or about 0.6uH which with the 22pF, looks as though it matches from 50 to 600 ohms..
So am a bit confused why it isn't fitted?

Got my zbitx and works well with ft8.? Can you download fldigi to radio and use fldigi right from the radio just like ft8??

Wouldn't the schematic be of value here?

Here's a link to the first (Dec 2024) schematic, I don't have a link to any updated schematic:

Hi,?
Taken the covers off my Zbitx, and just trying to work my way around the PCB.?
In the circuits available which are possibly out of date, it shows LC matching on either side of the 40 MHz crystal filter. Looking at the board it appears to have one L matching inductor T30-6 with 13t (one is a wire link, but the 22pF capacitor appears to be still fitted)
Please could someone confirm whether that is correct.?
Thanks
