Re: Reverse polarity protection on the sBitx? #sBitx #sBITX_v3

@Gary you CAN use PowerPole connectors to prevent reverse connections.
Just use it in an hermaphrodite configuration.
I suggested this as a standard in the Italian ham bullettin (2019, Vol 7/8)
Unfortunately the article (attached below) is in Italian, but looking at the pictures should suffice.?

Re: Advice and Opinions on the next iteration of the sBitx

- push button to shut down the PI
- three position power switch (to limit draw when just fiddling with the sw):
? ? ? ?1 : OFF
? ? ? ?2: digital (PI) only ON
? ? ? ?3: both digital and analog ON?
- 5W VHF (possibly with separate antenna input)
- dedicated split for repeaters offset
- 100W HF
- fan (with speed monitor / alarm)

Re: Max pwr on sbitx v3

Thanks, Ragav. I think I carried the files forward from V2 as delivered to V3 64bit. However, I did not realize that setting were by unit. I will go to my backups, find the original, and check the values.

Re: Max pwr on sbitx v3

Bruce,
?
Each unit is individually tested and calibrated with it's own values in the hw_settings file. That said, there is usually very minor deviation from the values in a given batch.
?
As OM Gyula suggested, it's a good idea to backup the settings for your device before you make any modifications.

There's a whole bunch of ways to do the same thing.? This would work just fine and be cheap.? But you'd also see a voltage drop across 2 diodes, so upwards of 1.4v drop.? Lets say the radio draws 7A through the diodes, that's a power loss 9.8W.? When you're running on a battery, that's a pretty large power loss and a fair amount of heat to have to reject.? Of course that's only at full-duty and on SSB it wouldn't be a big deal, but if you're running digital modes, that would be a lot.

I am surprised no one so far has used the simplest way of protection.
Use a suitably rated (amps) bridge rectifier, hard wire + to rig +
hard wire -ve to rig -ve? the two AC tags of the rectifier then connect
to the power supply.......either way round makes no difference, the rig
will always see the correct polarity.? Fuse as you normally would.
My 2 cents worth from this side of the pond.

Re: sBitx CW keyer problems and idea for solution #sBitx #sBITX_v3 #cw #firmware

The keyer in JJ's dev branch feels promising. Played around with it on a dummy load and it seems to key correctly at 25 wpm. Planning to activate with it over the weekend and will report back.?

It's important to me because I have V2 hardware slightly modified but with JJ's 64bit V3 software. This weekend I plan to see if I still have the original hw_settings.ini file and compare it to what I have on my V3 installed version. I need to determine what is correct.
The manufacturer can give you the correct answer to your question. I received the v2 device at the beginning of production, when we had not yet received an adjusted device (April 2023), I had to do this myself. The description of the setting can be found on the sbitx.net page.
This setting is not required for v3.

Re: Discord communication

Is a Discord account necessary for me to access the conversations?? I've tried off and on for six months or so. I do have a Discord account, but when I try to access the BITX20 channel, I'm asked to verify my account by entering my email and phone number. I do that and I'm then informed that my email is already registered. I already know that. Discord's Help suggested I get a different email address and different phone number, so I did and now I have two inaccessible accounts. I don't want to buy a third phone.

Any secret?remedy to this problem?? Sorry to vent here, but I get no help from Discord's "Help", so I have to try here or abandon the idea.

(I kept the V2 finals for the 40 or so watts on 80, 40, etc. but installed the dual-ended Zener diodes to protect the finals from excess drive voltages.)

Re: uBITX Digital Adapter Board pinouts

What ubitx do you have? I'm betting you did not make it and that its a Chinese copy from ebay? I have a V5 board and box. Everything has to be wired by hand. CAT control for mine is directly on the Radiuno board buried inside the box. The Digital Adapter Board brings out USB/AF/etc to a set of connectors at the back - once you wire them up.

Andy, it's his decision to do as he chooses. If you have an issue with it, consider creating something yourself and sharing it here, instead of derailing others' threads with irrelevant comments. You could have sent him a private message, which is a feature available on 开云体育. I don't think anyone here should assume the authority to give orders to others.

Vlf reception

I have a sbitx. Have I any chance to listen vlf signal with my hardware and some software trick (gnuradio or similar)?

I use discord as well (and IRC!), but it's/they're useless for anything where one wants to maintain "corporate knowledge" older than a day or three.? It also fragments the info, ultimately making it harder for new folks to find info they need.

I'm still studying posts here from many years ago as I slowly learn how to design and tweak the blocks for my multiple uBITX radios. I'd never be able to find similar info from more than a couple of weeks in a discord channel.? I used to coordinate with remote team members on discord and IRC...both are impaired relative to this platform.

Unfortunately, the chat feature doesn't work on 开云体育. There's also a separate Facebook group managed by someone else. Therefore, saying these platforms are useless is unfounded. I do agree that the information here is searchable, especially via search engines, whereas Facebook and Discord are not.

However, Discord offers additional benefits, such as screen sharing, real-time chat, and the ability to assist each other quickly. These are valuable supplementary features to this group.

NOTE: you need about 4X the heatsink area or more to stay
up there. Adding a copper heat spreader helps. at 24V when
no signal TX 6W of heat (due to bias current). That high the
BS170s are working at fairly high voltage.
