VU2ZAP has given a nice reply. Similar problems cropped up in case of a
friend's FT8 interface. 0.01ufd and 0.001ufd MLCC capacitors cleared the
mess.

Its picking up RF and locking.
Try adding 0.1 or 0.01 uf across the DB9 wires and also the 914s and see

That's exactly what I did n my uBitx V6, I removed the speaker and turned the top plate upside down, I then counter sunk the speaker holes and remounted it back in place. The 5 volt regulator

Don't worry about the nuts on the jacks.? I had the same "problem".? Can't remember about the volume control, but it's all rigid, so there's no problem with operating the radio.
