Raj,?
?
The amplifier I plan to use is from and old sdr kit and it has that chip.?
?
So I bave to modify the software to generate the three outputs.
?
Will keep looking for ideas how to implement.
?
Thanks,
Juan

Re: FT8 sBitx v3 v4.01 Power Output

Hey Kevin,
I noticed that the drive icon is set for 25. That icon is a percentage of the output. Try bringing it up to 75 or 100 percent and see if the watts increase while using FT8. This is the way I increase my power output to 25 watts on FT8. I was even able to make a contact with an Australian ham 9274 miles from my QTH with 100 percent power and an
Elecraft AX1 antenna sitting on my kitchen counter. These radios are great.

Re: CAT control crashing when transmit on FT8

It is worth checking that it is grounded at one point, i.e. there is no ground loop. Lead the grounding of the devices separately to the grounding point. It is worth winding as much of the power cable (the positive and negative) as will fit on the ferrite ring in parallel. I have 6 turns of an FT140-43 ferrite from 2x 2.5mm2 wires, so that no RF signal goes out on the power supply wire.

Wow! Absolutely amazing. I had no idea the stuff was going on. I need to get with the times.

Re: CAT control crashing when transmit on FT8

I suspect common mode RF from the antenna especially if you are using an end fed even with low SWR. Try adding a counterpoise of 10-12 ft of wire connected to the shield of the antenna connector or adding an RF choke by winding 6-8 turns of the coax in a coil.

CAT control crashing when transmit on FT8

Hi all,
?
My uBitx v6 cat control crash when transmit on FT8. Problem happens in 10m band, when the radio is transmitting, almost half way through 15 second tx interval, error msg pops up that "a usb device connected to computer has malfunctioned". I have wrapped the usb cable in a FT240-43 toroid, 8turns. But this also did not help. Kindly suggest an solution.

Re: Sbitx bandpass filter

The processor has to generate the BCD depending on your dial frequency.

With 3 lines from processor you can get 7 bands or with this chip 4 lines and 9 bands.

In the older rigs of the 80s this was a standard approach. You run 3 lines all over the PCB

and decode 7 bands for input and final filters and any PLL or such.

I used a BCD to decimal chip. See attached datasheet.

Re: WM8731 alternative?

?
So my usual reply to the concerns that this or that corporation is unfairly making a? profit from their expertise .....
?
(which reminds me of the joke about the mechanic who chastises the surgeon for his high prices, pointing out that he, too, works on complicated engines and diagnoses and fixes all kinds of problems like broken pushrods, valves that need grinding, etc -- to which the surgeon agrees with the skill of the mechanic but then simply asks,? "Can you fix the engine WHILE IT IS STILL RUNNING?" )
?
so my usual reply is just to encourage the person upset about the profit, is to say,? "Why don't you yourself go BUY [a portion of] the Company, so YOU would be receiving that profit and thus able to easily afford their product?
?
In this case, ADI was selling for only about $30 / share back in 2010.? ?If you have put $300 into buying a tiny portion of that company, right now you would be sitting on somewhere north of $2,300 -- and thus EASILY able to purchase one or more of their transceiver-on-a-chip, which on Mouser is going for $377 in quantities of single digits (due to a little inflation, likely due to a bit of money-printing (only a few Trillion) by the U.S. government) ?
?
So there are ways to deal with such corporations.? ?But just like THEY had to take a risk to produce that product, YOU have to take the risk of picking which corporation to purchase.? ?many go out of business every year.? ?There is no free lunch!? They worked hard to make that profit!

Re: Sbitx bandpass filter

Wired the 4 outputs and change the band limits and now have 30m to 6m bandpass working. That should be enough to finish wiring the tx and see how the output looks. Later will check the free gpio to complete the bands from 40m to 160m.

Re: FT8 sBitx v3 v4.01 Power Output

Hi Kevin,
?
I noted that the frequency is 7.075 MHz. However, I believe that the correct frequency for FT8 is 7.074 MHz. Try that and see if the QSOs are answered.

?I do not know why the power is showing 0 Watts.? Is it the same for other bands put into a dummy load?
