Re: can I operate two encoders in parallel on the same VFO/Fbutton circuit?

Mark,
It seems to me that even with a switch that it would be glitchy.
With a 2 bit encoder, only a 25% chance that they would be parked in the same state.
So 75% of the time, the state will be changed just by flipping the switch and not even touching the encoder.
Since encoders are Grey Encoded, I would also expect some additional 'software glitches' when the state change is nonconsecutive.
e.g. a jump from 00 to 11? (when from a 00, you would expect the next to be 01 or 10? to calculate the direction)
You might be happy with it for your needs, just some things you might notice.
A couple of turns and you should be good to go, just not back and forth between the 2 encoders for fine adjustments.
Rgds,
Gary

Re: No RF power output from uBitex V 6.0

Dear Ashhar,

Thanks a lot for the reply.?

It looks like the BPF relays has some problem.?The BPF relays worked (switching bands from the display activated the BPF relays) once after I have tapped all of it with the base of a screwdriver, but still no RF output. After recycling the Bitx the BPF relays again stopped responding. Once the display also got frozen.

I see test points on the circuit board. Is there any step-by-step instructions to test/check PA and BPF sections.
?
Still checking it. So please provide suggestions to fix it.

Re: Nextion LCD for V6

Oops, not enough coffee yet...

There is a .tft. file for the 2.8 inch discovery. Forgot about that.? See all the available tft files here:

So without any eye to? possibel upgrades (of which there hasnt been any for a long while), any of the 2.8 Nextions models should work.

Re: Nextion LCD for V6

One more thing, make sure you get a "real" Nextion with those model numbers.? There are "TJC" Nextions that are designed for the Chinese market and they have their own editor. I have also seen some strange references to them in the KD8CEC code that suggested they needed some special handling.?

Re: Nextion LCD for V6

Petr,

You want to buy the 2.8" Nextion.? And I would strongly recommend buying the "enhanced" (NX3224K028) models.? The Basic model has a slower graphics engine and more limited memory.? For a few more euros/dollars you can set yourself up for any future enhancements that might be added. The "Discovery" model looks to be a replacement for the Basic. However, there are currently no "tft" files generated for the Discovery so you would have to go back to the .HMI files and use the Nextion editor to generate them yourself. (I can help you if you go this route).

With that said, you could get away with the Basic.? The QR Code backup facility that was provided on the Nextion is basically broken because the web service that KD8CEC offered is broken or disabled. That takes up a lot of memory. So in the next round of Nextion screen "upgrades" for KD8CEC 2.0, that feature will be gone.?

Hi,

Was thinking about a "Elecraft kpod like" remote box addon for the KD8CEC software. KD8CEC already has the ability to use a resister network on the encoder function button to drive up to 16(- overkill and a waste of EEPROM memory IMHO...) switches that can drive some common functions A->B, etc..?

So would it be possible to just connect a second encoder in a box with these resisters, connected by a wire with the signals and power connected in parallel with the original encoder mounted on the front panel?

I am more of a software guy, so very much uncharted area here and could use some help from more hardware oriented folks.

This is Alice Evans (Arvid's wife).? I wanted to let you know he had a stroke (Oct 29,2022) after coming home from his younger brother's "Celebration of life" service in Midvale ID (where they grew up).? He hadn't been feeling well for quite some time, going downhill. We got home and he said his right leg felt like it had gone to sleep because of the 1 1/2 hr drive. He laid down on the couch (unusual for him). So I called my twin sister in CA (a retired RN) to ask what I should do? She said "take him to the ER immediately". Called another sister to ask for some info and also ask her. She said "take him to the ER but give him a baby aspirin before you go". So we did. He was admitted with a mild stroke. With all the tests done the found he had a Major Heart Attack in the past causing damage to his heart. They kept him in St Al's Hospital for a week trying to decide what Med's to put him on for his Heart & Brain. They then transferred him across the street to Physical Therapy for another week. He's been going to Cardiology, Neurology, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy (to help with swallowing), Wound Care appointments. He gradually improved until last week when he started going downhill again. Yesterday we went to P.T. then out for a late breakfast before coming home. We did a bathroom break twice before he sat in his rocker with his eyes closed (he was tired). He got up, moved to the couch, then said "I don't feel well" before moving to the center of the couch. He then threw up in his lap & on the couch too. I was trying to clean that up when he leaned back, losing color in his face, then he gasped twice and lost all color in his face & hands. I couldn't find a pulse. I called my son at work "I need you NOW".Then called 911 to get Paramedics here. They had me start Chest Compressions, Son took over, then Paramedics when they got here. They worked until they got a pulse, then onto a gurney, into the ambulance to go to the nearest Hosp. There they tried to get him stabilized. DR came to say they had a pulse, would try to get him functional but didn't think he would get back to where he was before this. We told them to "Let him go, it would be what he wanted, that he wouldn't want to continue this way. We're OK with that". They said OK to that. He passed away @ 2:56 pm yesterday (Apr 4,2023).
I tried more than once to get him to start up his computer and let? you all know how he was doing. He refused every time. Our oldest son lives with us and has a partial education in Computer Programming. So I asked him to see if he could get email addresses for me to send this update on what happened to him.

Re: can I operate two encoders in parallel on the same VFO/Fbutton circuit?

Apparently, this is not easy because the position of the encoders "at rest" of the two encoders are likely not to be at the same place. Sounds like it is possible to parallelize the function button, but you need a dpdt switch to on the encoder leads to use one and disconnect the other.
