Re: AGC

Thank you Andy, I updated the Zip in the files section with the new extension.

Mic preamp board SSM2167works nicely.

This preamp makes a HUGE difference. Here is my version of the SSM2167 mic preamp/compressor for the uBitx v6. I used it with the supplied Baofeng microphone and it worked well checking into the WPSS evening net on 3952 KHz. After adjusting the gain, gate and compression (not too much!) I got good audio reports, and much better that with the microphone alone. I followed the project according to KI7OJL's implementation (??but printed my own box, and used a small L78L05 I had lying around in a TO92 case. No need for a big TO220 unit.?

Re: Distorted Audio #ubitx

Can you please elaborate on what you mean?
1. Are bothered with rx audio or tx audio?
2. If on rx, do all signals sound distorted or only the loud ones?
3. If on rx, does it happen on speaker or headphones or both?
4. Is the distortion worse on any one sideband?
Can you attach an audio clip?

Saved by the hidden fuse in ubitx V6 ;-)

I have a bunch of Raduinos with both V5 and V6 headers (2 extra pins) that I was swapping around to check that the KD8CEC LCD functionality still worked with a Pico and Teensy processors.

Well, I plugged a V5 into a V6 *aligning it with the extra pins* (so everything was offset by 2 pins). Magic smoke! (Daughter thought that we had a gas leak lol).

After disassembly, discovered that the copper trace to12v in to on/off switch was literally toast and had actually burned out like a fuse at one point. :-) Jumpered a wire over the virtual fuse and everything "so far" seems fine. Will check again tomorrow, but receive appears to work and I was copying some cw. :-)? Hopefully I got lucky...

Re: AGC

FYI... If one opens the Gerbers for these AGC boards and renames the file "ND6T-Edge_Cuts.gbr" to have a ".gko" extension, OSHPark, JLCPCB, and Dirtypcbs are happy with the Gerbers.

Here's an interview with Eben Upton, RasPi CEO, from Dec 18th.? Covers more ground on supply and availability than the press release.

Re: AGC

David - would you consider upgrading the Gerbers for the uBITX AGC board from 274D to 274X? I've not found a board house that will accept the old Gerber format, and so far I've been unable to manually re-work the files.

(If anyone knows of a way to convert formats, or of a service that converts them, or of a board house stuck in the 1990s, I'd love to hear about it. I have about a dozen boards I'd like to have made that are in 274D.)

Doug and Mark,

Thanks for the feedback. I will study Mark's work on version 2.0 before I decide what to do.

uBitx Version 6 lifecycle

Will the ver 6 continue for awhile or will the sBitx replace it soon? Does the sBitx have filtering for BC band interference? Thanks?

Questions about Nextion Upgrade #nextion

I have successfully installed version 0.2 of his excellent firmware on my uBitX V6.1

This is a vast improvement over the original for CW operation and the CAT control works well with FLRIG.

I am studying the upgrade to the Nextion TFT display.? It will require some modifications and I am studying the documentation.?

Is uBITX_CEC_V1.200.zip\uBITXV5 the latest firmware for Nextion support?? I ask because it dates back to 2019.

What additional features will the Nexion upgrade provide? over the present TFT display??

I'm satisfied with N8ME's code and want to determine of it is worth the effort.

Thanks in Advance,

Mike N2MS

Best Adafruit MAX9814 for AGC on uBitx v6 #ubitxv6

As mentioned on ubitx.net, there are different versions of the Adafruit MAX9814 for sale on eBay and elsewhere. Does anyone know which version is best to be used for AGC on a v6 uBitx?

? ?...doug, K6DRK

AGC

Just a heads up to any that may have missed it or new to the group.

?

The AGC files including gerbers are in the Files section under kit-projects.

?

The AGC on the site at this time is not for the uBitx and only for the Bitx40.

I didn¡¯t save a copy of the calibration unfortunately. I didn¡¯t know that was possible. I¡¯ll look into the memory manager.?

The am station was not coming through before I tried tuning to it. I¡¯ll have to try another calibration. I do have a nano vna so I¡¯ll give that a shot.?

Spencer,

There are two possibilities that I can think of:
1 - The AM station is close to your QTH and overloading the first mixer.? That would mean a BCI filter is needed.
2 - The other possibility is that you tuned the v6 to receive the BC signal and not the standard HF band signals when you did the calibration.? That would require a recalibration using another standard.? I use WWV, though dealing with the tones is an issue.? The other calibration option would be to use a signal generator as the AM source.? By chance, do you have a NanoVNA or TinySA?? Either can be used as a signal generator if you do not have one.

The most likely cause is the first.
By chance, did you save the calibration file using the Memory Manager from KD8CEC?? If so, I would load that into the Nano with the KD8CEC software and see if that solves the problem.

Hi Evan
The encoder is plugged into the back of the raduino board. I can change the frequency in the screen, and I am able to pick up strong signals while tuning (ie: 40m Ft8) but even while I hear the Ft8 tones the am station is still coming through as well.?

if I have time in the next few days I¡¯ll try and record a video of what it¡¯s doing. This thing is weird.?
