I have an old XLR microphone. Its body of it is in good shape. Could I get an electret microphone element and redo the workings of it??

You are making sense. The ubitx is designed for an electret microphone. This is the easiest type to use. Traditional older microphones are dynamic, different principle and it requires added circuitry to function. Read the wiki article on electret. I am thinking everything in my shack is electret. Got a powered desk mike, ten tec. My favorite now is a PC headset, wired up adapters to use it with 2 of my rigs. I use a foot switch, music store type a LA amazon for PTT.? I don't know if you can find an electret in that traditional form, maybe.? With my v4 ubitx I still use an old HT speaker mike which does well in my case, no amplifier or speech processor yet.? If you don't want to mod your ubitx stick with electret.? Curt |
uBITX v6 Microphone

Hey everyone, it's been a bit. Still stuck in bed and it is truly driving me crazy. Got a microphone question about choosing a microphone for the uBITX v6.?
On my previous v6 I had a??that i modified for my uBITX v6. Now I do not remember where I got the instructions on modifying it.? This time round I would like to have a traditional type microphone and PTT switch. Has anyone come up with a mic that works with the uBITX?? What I mean by a traditional type microphone that looks like this: I'm not sure of the different types like condensor and electrict just mainly something that will work with the uBITX v6? Right now I am adrift in an endless ocean of pain with some prescription medication so I'm not really sure if I am making any sense.? -- '72 Aaron K5ATG |
Re: sBitx #sBitx PA MOD Plan
#sBitx
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThere are some of us who are incapable of handling the upgrade of the early sBIT.? I am one of them.? Perhaps some of our more capable users would, for a fee, handle this for us.? I know I would be willing to pay shipping both ways to someone who would do mine, plus something to reimburse him (or her) for the time spent. Hi Evan,
It does receive but it is off the frequency is slightly off.? I'll try a calibration since I did change the nano when I changed software. If that doesn't get me anywhere I'll look at those voltages.?? Thanks, 73 Spencer VA3SPN |

Hi Spencer,
Does the v6 receive as expected?? The most likely issue is that it is not calibrated correctly.? This is most likely the case if you changed the Nano when you installed the KD8CEC software.? The calibration data is stored in the EEPROM that, is not updated when you download the program, and stays with the Nano. The next most likely issue would be the mic preamp, Q6.? You can use the v4 voltage spreadsheet to check the transistors of proper dc bias voltages provided by VU2ZAP: /g/BITX20/files/VU2ZAP 73 Evan AC9TU |
KD8CEC now "working" on Raspberry Pi Pico
Just uploaded experimental support for KD8CEC running on the Raspberry Pi Pico. This required relocating the encoder, encoder button and PTT lines off of the Analog pins. They are now located (on Pico) on gpio pins:
? #define ENC_A? ? ? ? ?17
? #define ENC_B? ? ? ? ?18
? #define FBUTTON? ? ? ?19
? #define PTT? ? ? ? ? ?22

In particular, the si5351 can be challenging.? The original uBITX Memory Manager will *not* work with this platform. An alternative set of python based applications that provide backup, restore, and customizations is available at: You will need to be "python" smart to get these alternative replacement for the uBTIX Memory Manager to work. They are not perfect, but should be useful. A GUI version that fully replaces the uBTIX memory manager is underdevelopment. At that point, I will also improved the packaging so that non-python folks an install it and use it. NOTE: ALL THIS IS EXPERIMENTAL WORK! Ubitx v6, only mod being a nextion display and kd8cec software
-I have output on cw mode, 8ish w on 80m varying through the bands -the stock mic keys the radio as a cw key in the key jack and puts the radio into transmit when in the mic jack.? no output from the radio in ssb when speaking into the mic.? -I have tried to operate the radio in ft8 as well with a signal link and a computer.? I can key the radio, but no output.? -I have verified good connection at the mic jack on the board, tested the wires on the mic from the jack to the circuit board inside the mic.? -I tried a c/b mic with a built in amplifier (using an adapter) that has a built-in amplifier and battery. no change. -a quick look at the circuit board doesn't reveal any defects, or bad solders. I originally thought it was the mic but if that was the case, it should have worked when using ft8 with the signal link.? I am intending to use this radio for portable operation both digital and ssb, so having the mic/ssb working is crucial.? Not sure if I have a mic/audio issue or something else at this point..... Thanks in advance for advice/next steps to test. |
Re: Another battery question
Richard,
That Lossigy 20AH 12V LiFePO43 looks very interesting. Includes a BMS inside, should be as easy to use as a lead acid battery. Has 4x the Amp-hours of my Gooloo (though the Lossigy won't start my car!). Web hits on "Lossigy" seem mostly positive. A comparable Bioenno is nearly 4x the price. Jerry, KE7ER |
Re: Another battery question
Yessir - the 10 Ah PSI cells are rated for 10C charge/discharge. One of the cell interconnects is a 100 A fuse, which can be seen in the photo.??Radios had their own fuses as well. The battery started as a test pack and has a couple sets of balance leads for different BMS and LVC devices. The bench-top spaghetti monster. hihi

The ESCs I've used reduce or cut power to the motor when the battery gets low. Since servos are connected to the battery directly, they continue to function after the prop stops spinning. It makes it easy to glide back for a battery swap if one loses track of time.
